Hey!

So I've had authorship here for... awhile now (well over a year). I scrolled through, but never really got involved. A few weeks ago there was a post by Kat about women and car culture, which lead to a post here on Oppo about NSFW posts. I am the woman who said she stayed away from Oppo due to the amount of NSFW posts. Since then I have been checking it out, and I haven't even seen one post.

So that being said, I figured I would introduce myself and start getting more active. I'm in my late 20s, and live in Milwaukee. I was in Chicago for 5 years before moving here. I drive a 2006 Cobalt SS Supercharged for my fun car, and have a 2012 Sonic LTZ for a daily.

The Cobalt is... Not stock. Haha. It gets the job done, and I can catch all sortsa stuff at Road America I probably have no business running down. Yeah, I track a Cobalt.

Kinja'd!!!

It has a 2.7" pulley, 80lb injectors and runs on E85. Also a bunch of cooling mods to handle the 2.7, and also all the basic bolt-ons like an intake and catback. The suspension has been upgraded, and also the front brakes are swapped to the later year Cobalt's Brembos. It also has a trailer hitch, which I use to pull a small trailer with my race slicks. I could post a more detailed mod list, but meh. If you have any specific questions, ask away.

So yeah. That's me and the fun car. Thanks for reading!

Howdy! I'm always interested in seeing content from track days, so feel free to post pictures, video, etc. I am DYING to drive Road America but it's so damn far from me (in PA). I've done approximately 8 billion virtual laps on it though lol. Someday I guess...

I generally do one "track day bro" post for every HPDE I attend and, shockingly, they're not entirely ignored. Sometimes I even get some great conversation out of it! Most recent one is here: http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/summit-point-h…

True story: my very first track event, April of 2012 at Summit Point, Jefferson Cir., I was on track with a Cobalt SS. At the time I had a 335i and I was absolutely shocked (and appalled?) that I wasn't blowing its doors off. Silly me. I haven't underestimated one since!

Welcome! Glad to have you onboard! Your Cobalt looks great and I'm jealous of your proximity to Road America

Thanks! One of the reasons I moved to Milwaukee was to be closer to Road America... I've been up there for two track days (so four days driving) and also was up there for The Hawk vintage weekend this year. Also going up on Sunday for the Tudor race.

You actually moved for the track? That's beyond awesome! Love the commitment!

You do of course realize we'll expect Road America photos from you now, right?

I am legit the worst for taking pictures and video at track days... The event before last I took an uncharged Go-Pro (and didn't have a cable) and then two weeks ago I had a freshly charged camera, and just flat out didn't bother to put it on the car. Wompwomp.

Sometimes I underestimate myself... I had a train of 3 BMWs catch me, which I pointed by, because I know better. But it was on 14-1, and I didn't lift right away because, come on, BMW vs. Cobalt, right? Yeah, my bad. I did lift so they could get by, but felt bad since I pretty much drag raced the first one up the hill. The one guy knew me and came over after the session, and said he was a little surprised I had to lift for them too.

Eh, I mean it was in the plus column. I also have a bunch of friends in the area, the weather is nicer (I hate hot weather...) and it's a silly amount cheaper. And I have a garage for the Cobalt, which is pretty much unheard of in Chicago without paying stupid amounts of money.

Welcome! Always glad to see new faces!

The Cobalt SS is a very cool car, I took one in on trade at work and have to say I was shocked at how nice of a car it was. Recaro seats, built in onboard computer and this one was turbocharged. A whole lot of fun!

Hrmm, Recaros and a turbo aren't a factory option. The Recaros were only on the 05-07 supercharged cars. The seats in the 08-10 turbo cars weren't Recaro, but are said to be better. Sounds like someone traded the turbo seats for Recaros and cash, which happens when people sell the car.

A garage is a very important accessory.

Welcome!

Sounds like a kickass Cobalt (which I am certainly not afraid to say).

I'm always happy to see someone find an American car to modify to make into their own. I'm a huge "American Car" guy and have worked at a number of US Brand Auto Ad Agencies.

I'm also oddly into Mercury's so be warned when ever a question is asked, a Mercury is almost always my answer.

Haha, thanks!

You can sorta see the front bowtie is pink and I've also painted some of the interior trim pink. Other than that and a few other appearance mods, it's all been performance stuff.

I do get a little miffed when someone drag races me after an early point. My theory is that if you want to keep the hammer down just give a late point at the other end and lift/brake a fraction of a second early. Late points are where ALL the fun is for me at DEs - passing under braking and taking the corner off line? Booyah!

My trick with the GoPro these days is that I bought a "Wasabi" brand two-battery kit with charger - that way every morning I start with 3 totally charged batteries, and I just swap them throughout the day as needed. So that covers my in-car video. Today I received in the mail an external mic that I can hopefully use to get more accurate sound that isn't all wind noise. The GoPro is impressive but the mic just can't hack it at 145mph.

I also am horrendously bad at taking still pictures of stuff at the track. It's funny - if I saw a BMW track car on the street I'd freak and take 50 pictures on my phone but when I'm at the track with a hundred incredible cars it somehow doesn't occur to me to take pictures. Dumb. Normally I get home and realize I have like two or three half decent pictures of my friends' cars and nothing else. Glad I'm not the only one like that lol.

I was honestly expecting to have the BMW just blow my doors off like the Vettes and whatnot do, and then whoops... nope... didn't happen, my bad.

I'm looking at my phone for what I took: A really bad side angle of my car sitting under a tent (The Hawk vintage weekend had left their tents up, which we used until the crews came to tear them down) The smashed front end and carbon splitter to a C7 Vette who got in over his head the first session. It was left in a trash can, and the guy left after lunch. The picture I posted. A close up of a funny sticker a friend made for me and my friend who also has a Cobalt - "Team Recall Racing" . Sun rising at the track (The only plus to getting there at 6am). And then me and my friend at Culvers, where you can see I'm pulling a trailer.

This was at a track day full of at least 5 full racing Ferraris who were there early for their race, so they paid to come out and drive around with us. Not to mention the normal assortment of Vettes, BMWs and GT-Rs.

Ahhh! RACING FERRARIS! We don't get that kind of thing often at NJMP - or really at Summit for that matter. You're so lucky to have such a "major" facility as your home track! We have a great mix of cars at our tracks don't get me wrong but there's nothing like the draw of a track run by the all the big racing series. Been considering a trailer myself btw, just for the convenience. Everything (set of track wheels, my tools and a 10x10 EZup) fits in my monster sedan but it'd be so much easier not to have to deal with hoisting those tires in teh back seat and strapping them down. Real PITA, especially when you're exhausted at the end of a two day event.

This was my first event with the trailer, and it was awesome. The event I did in May I didn't have the trailer built yet, and having to fit the wheels, tools and my other junk in a Cobalt was not fun.

It was a little miserable changing the wheels back in the 90 degree heat with 90% humidity (it started raining just as we finished changing the wheels) but still better than playing Tetris with a car.

Yeah it's all fun and games until you use almost a half tank in a session. And can't street drive your car due to slicks... I have to bring it all in by 5 gal cans now. Luckily I have friends who let me borrow their car for runs back into town.

Still worth it though, don't get me wrong.

I saw a G5 GT today, you seem to understand these cars, what made it a GT so I don't have to go google lol

I'm not totally sure of them, but I believe the GT was pretty much the Cobalt SS/NA (which was later called Sport, since people were pissed there was a NA SS model along side the supercharged version).
