Besides a few little rattles both clips sound pretty good! I read a comment the other day that said to put a sock over the microphone to stop that along with wind noise.

The mic has a wind cover. It's slightly too close to the exhaust, I think it's picking up some wind off the tailpipe itself at high RPM. The rattling in the second video is because I didn't tape it to the heatshield very well.

I need to find an extension. For autocross I'd like to try the mic next to the tailpipe, but the cable isn't long enough. I would have liked the camera to be further forward but that was the best I could do. I'm going to test out just sticking the mic to the door and see how that sounds.

Yeah, thats a good idea. You have good timing because I've been looking at different mic options as well. Do you have a GoPro? Or what are you using?

It's a go pro with the cheapest lapel mic I could find on ebay and the official gopro USB to 3.5mm cable. I had bought a cheap USB cable but it didn't work, so be warned. The GoPro cable was $11 on Amazon, which is a lot for a cable but it works.

If you don't mind, which go pro? I was looking at the cheapest whatever (white?) they had and thought the videos looked pretty good (I'm no expert) but then many reviews were bashing it and saying to spring for the black model. Idk how often I'd really even use it if I got it, what will all the extreme stuff I do like grocery shopping, but I guess a bit of future proofing might not hurt either.

It's the base model. More than enough for what I do with it.

By comparison, here's an older video I took with a cheap keychain camera. It's alright, but the GoPro is significantly better

Good deal! I'm glad to hear that. I don't think I'll by kayaking down any waterfalls or anything like that, but I thought it could be fun/useful to have something. I think the quality of your videos are good so that works for me!
