I LOVE my new job, but i HATE the hours. Seriously, I'm around cars all day, I get to help people make big decisions, and most important I am the one who decides how my customers are treated. However, I am starting to feel like I live there. I know that it's part of paying my dues and getting my customer base off the geound, but I wish there was a less time-intensive path to success.

Thats the main reason I've never been a car salesman. If it was M-F 8-5 I probably would of tried it (or single with no kids). Working weekends, and half the holidays is simply not worth it.

I did do 8-530 inside sales for a year. It was a horrible job that sucked my soul out a little more every day. Oh and the pay was crap.

I guess you gotta work 50+ hours a week anywhere to really get someplace these days.

this is unfortunately true. I work 60-80 hour weeks. Gone are the days of the guaranteed success at 40 hours.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do?

Medical Doctor. No one I know working 40 hour work weeks, is living comfortably. Everyone I know outside of medicine, is working 50-60 it seems. Not exactly an encouraging trend.

I fear what the future holds for us as a population. Families will begin to implode (if they're even started) and people will die earlier of stress-related issues.

Its just temporary. I genuinely think we've become addicted to things and not to people. Our addiction to things is what drives our need for money, and thus longer working hours. Cut your iPhone out of your life, and boom 100/mo is saved. Cable too.

I'm a bit drunk, so I didn't realize that I didn't elaborate.
Success is a race. An endurance race. You work hard, and you think about your customers (which, in your line of work, is very very rare, from my experience), you're going places. Just hang in there, and your higher ups will notice.
When I go to school, I'm known for my "machine like discipline" when it comes to studying. My professors usually see me in the building their offices are in because I just sit there and study. And the results show, come test time. When I need help, or a recommendation letter, they're always willing to write me one.
See, if its anything I've learned from this, its that, there's always someone above you in the corporate ladder who sees you, even if you don't see them. You'll get your turn. Just wait.

My wife and I have considered one of those tiny Tumbleweed houses. Seriously. I just want a decent car and a nice house. I don't need crazy things and my wife and I don't like to vacation.
