probably regulations. Headlights - high and low beam. Original probably didn't have high. The original also has a lower front and if I remember correctly there's some regulation on how low the front can be

It's got completely different radiator vent design too, coming from the top of the body instead of the side.

Found the answer. I thought it looked familiar.
Porsche 962, on which the Schuppan is based. So likely that top pic is the first one with Schuppan's chassis underneath a slightly modified 962 body he probably stole off his own racecar.
