But all I saw was this one car...
I did see a couple other things. Photodump at a later date, I'm still not finished looking at this. It's a 1955 300SL Gullwing, and has less than 80k miles on it IIRC. The owner, who I've met before, just said "Oh the Mercedes. Yeah, I've had that for a while." What kind of answer is that when someone tells you it's their favorite car at a show with some really wild rides?! He's not the most talkative person to general spectators at car shows. Somewhat sad, but at least these come out for people to see and enjoy.
Anyway, 720x1280 phone wallpaper for those interested. More wallpapers to come, along with this one
Oh, and I even got a trophy! Never pulled that off before.
With some obligatory #banditbait for your enjoyment. There's another blue trans am in this picture, hiding. More of the other cars later. More than half of what I took is that 300SL, so deal with it.

100% understandable. So very pretty.

Did you get to sit in it? Even if I never get to drive/own one I want to sit in one so I could die happy.

I went to cars and coffee today, when the LFA came in almost everyone went over to it.

Nice photos man! Thanks again for telling me about the show and being an awesome person to talk to! Even putting up with my grandma! I'm planning a big photo dump too!
PS I spent way too much time around that Gullwing too!!

That benzo is yours (also, way to ignore the tucker), I gotta ask….have you ever worked security at Prada in Short Hills mall?

Benz will be mine in a couple weeks or so. I haven't worked security in quite some time, but never in Short Hills. I'm not "big enough" for security anymore, especially with a bad back.

No, the owner is the kind of person who would rather have a heart attack than let someone he doesn't know sit in it. One day though.
A second 300SL convertible showed up, and I know the owner of that car. The owner is a nice guy, we're just not really on good terms, so I keep my distance.

Also, about the Tucker, it just doesn't really do anything for me. Thing is a Foose car as well if I'm not mistaken.

Anytime. Drop me a line whenever you're in the area, I'm sure there's car things that can be done.

If an LFA arrived and was parked in close proximity to the 300SL, I think I'd explode. Like, physically burst into a billion pieces.

Lol I ask because I hunk out with a kim coates looking security dude drinking free champagne talking cars about 2 years ago. He had a benz just like that one. Same AMG wheels and everything.

It's cool you know someone who owns one. I've seen one in my life. The guy who had it had that and the SLS.

Likely had an SL500 and put Monoblocks on them. The SL600 is a ridiculously rare car. I met a guy who has one hiding in his garage actually. For some stupid reason he found it amazing that someone who takes an SL600 to car shows knew so much about it. Whatever.
Basically, they're really rare, so I wont discount it completely, but I'm skeptical in general when most people try to talk about them. I immediately point something out on the car and see if they know about it, so I can filter whether they had a 500 or 600. Most people don't believe it's a V12, and an equal number of people say they've never even heard of the SL600 before.

The guy I know has no experience with owning a classic, much less such a rare and important classic like the 300SL. He doesn't do any work on his own cars at all. I'd say his driveway is a bit boring, with a sedan and a minivan in the garage. But now the 300SL takes priority. He'll figure it out, but it'll be expensive. Good thing he has an income that is at least "capable" of supporting the car.

I'm pretty sure it was a 600 because he was SUPER enthusiastic about his car, and showed me tons of pics lol. I was a bit preoccupied by the tesla store downstairs to confirm if it were a 600 or not, and this is going back like 3 years, but it sure as shit would explain why he thought his late model benz was such a big deal (my thoughts, at the time)

If it was a V12, plenty understandable. If it was a V8, he was just trying to hide amongst the big boys. Either way, no reason not to be proud, regardless of what it is/was.
I had a friend at Mercedes Corporate run the VIN, but there's just next to no info readily available about the SL600s. Kind of sad, I was looking for "official" production numbers and the like, but my friend said he didn't have a way to find that.

Thanks! Now that you live up in this general area, you should come out to some of these shows once in a while. Your Ferrari would be welcome!

Whippany, NJ. Theres morning and evening shows all over northern NJ. Not that far from you. Theres a collector who lives in Philly that does come out a few times each summer. The Cars & Croissants bring in cars from all over though.

I posted about this show twice to get more Oppos to come, and only JQJ213 showed serious interest in coming to it.

Yesterday they had two 67' 330 Ferraris and a 60's Lancia coupe of which only 200 were made I believe. The Lancia has a thermostat on the radiator that controls air flow with louvers . It was gorgeous. Honestly the LFA was amusing for a minute and I went back to looking at the Lancia.

Keep this in mind , and also keep an eye on this for other events that are going on.
My email is [my username] @ gmail, you can feel free to drop a line if you think you'll be going to any event. The nightly shows are a mixup lately, with a lot of them changing right now (I need to fix a few things on the calendar). But Saturday night at The Chatterbox is a big night, your car would certainly be welcomed there. Friday nights suck now, Thursday nights I don't usually get out to anymore (date night with the lady), and Tuesday nights are actually really small. Wednesday night has completely changed.
But the 10th will be a busy day (Cars & Coffee, then a LeMons race).
Regardless, when New Canaan starts up again, you should caravan up with all of us (OffRoadKarter, Mathias, Aaron, myself, and a few others). That would be great. I think we would actually have the craziest collection of cars if we all met up together and parked in a row.

There's a couple Lancias that are in the area by me, one is literally just out of restoration (not a concourse car, the guy did his own work, and just got it running again). That special thermostat thing would definitely be cool to see though.
The older Ferraris are nice, but I don't know, there aren't many of them that can get my attention easily.
