Because presently every car they make is either FWD or AWD. Has nothing to do with legacy, everything to do with me not having faith in them doing "the right thing."

They had the RWD S2k up until 5 years ago. And they had an otherwise FWD/RWD lineup then. I would be very okay with them building it with SH-AWD. It did wonders for the TL.
