Soo..Jeep Wrangler?

The Jeep Wrangler "has the best towing in its class" according to the Jeep website, with a max tow capacity of 2000 pounds. Now, I'm not 100 percent sure what class they put it in, but I'd put it as small but still off-roady SUV's.. Other vehicles I'd put in that class (as would magazines and Toyota by the looks of their pre set vehicles to compare the FJ with) would be the Nissan Xterra, which can tow 5000 pounds, and the Toyota FJ Cruiser which can tow 4700 pounds... last I checked, 2000 is lower then 4700 by quite a bit..so..what am I missing here? O.o Also, a Jeep XJ is rated up to 5000 pounds...how can the new Wranglers not tow more.. wtf -.-

The Wrangler can't tow much because of the front leaf spring suspension (live axle). Putting any sort of weight behind it takes a lot of traction off of the front (steering) wheels, thus making it unsafe.

Its probably in the class of small soft top SUV which there is only the Wrangler LOL.

Not sure, according to their website it's according to Wards Small/Sport Utility from 2013, so..don't know why Ward wouldn't of put FJ and Xterra in that class, lol

My only guess is that their interior room (in cubic feet) makes them midsize, thus rendering the 2door wrangler the only small sport utility (I think crossovers are a separate category)

The Wrangler hasn't had leaf springs since 1995. The Wrangler is soil sprung front and rear. It reason it can't tow is the low weight, short wheelbase and soft springs.

Yep. And I think the incredibly short wheel base is a significant factor as well.

My 2012 with 3.21 gearing and the 6-speed manual is rated at only 1000 pounds. You need to either add 3.73 gears or the 5-speed automatic to get that 2000 pound tow rating.

I think I'm just going to buy a old XJ, lol, super cheap so great for a winter beater, and with trailer equipped with brakes, it could hypothetically tow my Z..especially after I put her on a diet
