This Mustang was driven by a local 21 year old who would always go to the local meets. Supposedly he was out street racing hit a curb and rolled into some trees. He's now in critical condition and in a coma. Please don't street race. There's a picture of the car not wrecked at the meet below. Stay safe Oppo!

Amen. Take it to the track.

Not to rub salt in this wound but especially when the drag strip is like 10 minutes from where this happened.

AMEN! Take it to the track! I used to street race in '00 to '02 New Mexico Commissioner of Public Lands shut down the Dragstrip in an attempt to build houses on the land. I had some scary close calls and am lucky to be alive so I stopped doing it and instead would take the 3 hour drive to Roswell to race at their drag strip. I hope the kid recovers.

It still boggles my mind that someone would do this. Then again I'm much farther removed from adolescence than I'd care to think about right now.

On a track. It's just plain stupid on the toad

Why would you drive on a toad?

Street racing is not worth the risk. If he doesn't die, he'll never be the same. So sad.

Did this once as a teen. Pulled over by a cop that worked at a police station in the same building where my father worked.
Small town, Texas. I got off with a warning, but a very stern warning, and my father was phoned immediately.
Never did it again.

He was always working on his car in some way or another. That pic from the meet is like three months old so I'm sure he changed them by then.

For one street racing is bad. I do not condone it or any other form of high speed street driving.
That being said not the same car, different wheels.

The kid who drove it was always tinkering with it one way or another. That pic from the meet is a few months old. Im sure he changed them.

No kidding. I know a guy with a brain injury and one arm and no legs who's loving parents bought him a terminator convertible for his 16th birthday. He lives in a nursing home now. His two buddies that were with him live in the ground. True story.

Oh, Lord. That is so heartbreaking.

Not that what he did was in any way right, but I know of plenty of people who have wrecked their car on track days or test/tune at the strip. Only one ended up getting injured, but still......If you want to push cars to the limit we have to accept that it is dangerous, no matter how "safe" you can be.
Now if you decide that the street is the best place for wheel to wheel racing, I just want to put it out there that trees do not give two shits about that. Neither do concrete barriers. In fact, most things made of concrete and reinforced into the ground are not known to give a fuck. And there are no sand or gravel traps to even attempt to slow you down should you find yourself hurtling into one such object. Just something to think about.

Now, I will be the first to admit that I have streetraced. Very rarely, but it has happened. And I have opened up a car on a lonely road at night, or whenever. And it really is sad what happened to this kid, because now he has to live with the consequences. For the most part, I've grown out of my stupidity, so stories like this just make me wish more folks were turned into trackdays and dragstrips, to keep this stuff off the streets...all that being said, I have a story to share.
Dude I recently worked with got a $750 ticket for street racing a month ago...him and another dude (both in Mustangs) were racing at 3am on the highway that my house happens to sit on, cop catches the other dude, this guy (who I will refer to as Moron the rest of the story) hides in someone's yard for an hour, then, instead of driving the extra 20 miles to go the long way around and back to his house, where he wouldn't get caught, Moron DROVE BACK TO THE OTHER GUY'S HOUSE, HID THERE FOR ANOTHER 2 HOURS, GOT A HOMEMADE TATTOO, AND WAS THEN NABBED BY THE SAME COP WHEN HE TRIED TO LEAVE. 750 bucks gone, all his points gone, a shitty tattoo, one more ticket of any kind and he's out a license, and he didn't give two shits. Moron STILL drives like an asshat. I know I was dumb as a teen, but holy Jesus Christ. This is what comes when a kid who lives at home has a job but still doesn't have to pay bills or insurance or even really work, because daddy pays for shit, and in this case daddy has enough pull with cops in a certain city that the kid can do whatever he pleases there without getting ticketed, he only has to watch out when he drives the 10 miles to work or anywhere else, but at home, whatever he likes. Glad I don't live where he does.
And this is the best part. The road goes by my house, right? He woke me up as he went by, and I had no clue what the hell I had just heard. It sounded like a banshee. AND that day he had called into work. I was one of his managers. He left me hanging and I had to scramble to get a replacement guy in. And then Moron BRAGGED TO ME ABOUT HOW HE WON THE RACE AND GOT A TICKET. What. The. Actual. Fuck. I could have gotten him fired over that shit, but I figured a 750 dollar ticket was punishment enough. Then he quit a week later anyway. Oh well.

Track isn't cheap, i don't blame young people for street racing . The cost really adds up after a while. Yeah, we say autocross but some people really do find that boring.
I used to say "Take it to the track" but when you're a 20 something year old, going to college, paying bills and you wanna go fast, a track is either too expensive or too far away. It's not that i condone street racing, but the answer of telling people to go to the track isn't realistic and is a bit of blighted view.

I'm digging the early-90s Z24.
Mmmmm, I can just imagine the burble of that flat-top 3.1....

Mako...you shoulda fired him.

That is if you're lucky enough to have such barriers and trees.
Where I grew up on twisty mountain roads there are spots where you'd plunge hundreds of feet into a river. You'd be lucky to hit a tree.

Yeah, he didn't learn a damn thing...and then he got a job where me makes more than either myself or my own boss. Go figure.
