This red classic comes from reader KC who has what appears to be at first glance a lightly modified MGB GT. Appearances are deceiving because this thing is powered by a Corolla GTS twin-cam engine and built with incredible attention to detail.
This is another edition of Daily Turismo's !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! feature, which keeps delivering the hits like an MMA professional in a bar fight.
The pride of craftsmanship in this car is amazing. The little touches of things that 99% of the people looking at it would miss are the things that people who really like MGB GTs will love. The early door handles, the fender vents with the twin-cam script. The grille scripts, that DASH! The little details like taking the time to cut down the seats so that the seatbacks look right for an early car. The shaved handles the bumpers, talk about sanitized!
DT reader KC walks us through the build:
Year / Make / Model / Trim?
1970 MGB GT-Sport (as in GT-S Corolla)
How long have you owned it?
6 years
Why did you buy it?
Always liked the looks of the BGT and thought with the right drive train it could be a fun performer.
What do you use it for (commute, fun, racing...etc)?
It's my daily driver and is set up for TSD rally and goes to the track on occasion.
Is it stock or modified? If modified, please list some modifications.
Modifications I could write a book here but here are the main features.
The engine is a Toyota 4AG 16 valve 1.6 with large port head on a 20 valve block, Weisco pistons, Crower H-beam rods, forged crank, big cams, big valves. Breathing thru Dellorto 40s with an HKS variable induction manifold and stand alone controller.(see pics)
Crank fire ignition with Megajolt controller.
Toyota t50 5speed, Corolla GT-S disc brake rear axle narrowed 6" with Cusco LSD
5 link rear suspension with QA1 Carrera adjustable coil-overs
Exterior mods,
Aston Martin DB style fender vents (functional)
Early pull handle door conversion (GTs never had them)
Recessed beehive front turn lamp mod.
Shaved side markers reverse lamps and hatch handle
Over rider delete bumpers with custom fabled split rear.
15" spline drive alloy rims.
Interior.
Back seat delete
Fiero buckets shortened to low back style.
Striped pillow dash painted to body color with matching door and quarter caps.
What was the most memorable day in your car (proposed to wife, 3rd child born in back seat...etc)?
Most memorable time in the car was the 3 days of this years Snowball Rally in California. Most fun we ever had in a car.
What was the most catastrophic failure of parts/components?
In the failure category I have snapped a rear axle right in 2 so the the boys at Dutchman axle made me some forged steel replacements that they say will let me break everything else from now on.
What makes you want to keep owning this car?
Owning this car has been a blast love it's looks and the performance has surprised a lot of people expecting it to behave like a B (it doesn't)
I can keep up with my 911 buddies and turn lap times as quick as the wife's Boxster. Who needs a V8 ? light is right 1990 lbs.
Will you ever sell it?
Actually thinking about selling as I have the next project brewing.
A Porsche VW 914 with a 20 valve 4AG swap.
Daily Turismo : There have been some seriously sweet Reader Rides, but this one is something special. KC —if you ever want to sell it, the staff of DT requests a test drive first!

A reliable MG? be careful, you may anger the Auto-gods over making this thing exist! (I love it)
