I want something near luxury with all wheel drive with fantastic reliability- so that leaves bmw and Mercedes out of the running. I found this one, thought it was priced fairly well. Only one owner. Low mile. Awd. Anyone have one? I like the grill.

Try a Volvo S60 or Cadillac CTS. Trust me, you'll be happier.

You could get an AWD Cadillac CTS at that price, which would probably be a much better car.

I'd just buy a Fusion instead.

For the price, it seems like a good buy. I've worked on and driven many Fusions/MKZ and my wife owns one. They're nothing really to write home about from behind the wheel, but they are rock solid cars. I've only ever had to do maintainence to them. My only concern with the one you're looking at is the radio.

On MKZs without Navigation, they put in an obnoxious blanking plug with cheap buttons instead of the 8" screen. The effect is worse than any blank switch I've ever seen and ruins the whole center stack for me. Spend plenty of time behind the wheel to make sure you can live with it.

With nav

Without

love the volvo s60. Can't get one for 18,000 though with such low mileage. Plus how is reliability on them?

I actually like the interior a lot. Love the seats. The volvo definitely has better interior though, but more money too. Especially with awd.

And less mileage. Besides, that's just the asking price. And this one is a CPO. Just figured I'd throw that out there, since mechanically they're the same vehicle.

Honestly, with that out of the way, go for it.

I have personally seen so-so performance reliability wise in the newer models.

Isn't that a v8? Reliability is suspect too, isn't it?

Both. I deal with a lot of 30-50k cars, both new and used, and I've had a new MKZ with a heater that went out at 100 miles, and 3 Volvos under 10yrs/100k with completely finished transmissions. MKZ is still fine, though, but if you want "stupid reliable" get a 2005+ Japanese car.

V6 - I wouldn't trust most north star Cadillacs, but the 3.6 V6/AT combo is fine, pretty consistent. 36k couldn't hurt, either, as long as it's been maintained.

Average to above average.

An AWD CTS of that vintage is going for a good bit more than that, and at that point you're still looking at the 3.0L.

I would argue that most Japanese cars are less reliable now than they were between 1995 and 2005, given all of the mandated and optional electronic equipment that can go wrong recently.

It might balance out if you can't find a car before 2005 that isn't over 150,000 miles though.

Would take one of these over a MKZ.

I love this generation of STS, I was very sad to see it go. I never did care dor the refreshed front end though.

Yeah, the Japanese can be a mixed bag sometimes, but something like a 2009 ES350 can be acquired for a reasonable sum. On the flip side, an early 2005 Accord would be no good transmission-wise.

I test drove one, almost bought it. I enjoyed my experience very much, for what it's worth.

Ended up with an SHO for not a whole lot more (at the time).
