So I've got an urge to buy a motorcycle again. Partially because my Kia Soul is less than thrilling to drive, and partially because I'm 25 and I-haven't-done-anything-with-my-life-oh-my-God-I'm-a-failure. Surely a motorcycle will help me with these problems.
Thankfully I live in Florida, so cheap bikes are dime a dozen. I'm kind of thinking I'll get a Cruiser mainly because I would look ridiculous on a Standard and I don't really want a organ donor express ticket Sportbike.
Anybody actually like Cruisers? There's a couple out there that I kinda like, but the used market is really tempting.

I like cruisers myself. They make for a very relaxing, but not boring, ride.

Check out the Honda Grom. Cheap and looks super fun.

I'm a fan of the Iron 883, but used sportsters aren't that cheap around here...

I saw one at Road America that someone was using as a pit bike. If I frequented racetracks more I'd consider that or a Ruckus.

Just saying there are different types of bikes besides a cruiser and a sport bike. I'm not a fan of sport bikes either but i have ridden and owned super motos, adventure bikes, and sport tourers (Yamaha FZ8, KTM 690 Duke type bikes). Lots of options out there.

looking =/= riding. Just saying. True on the sport bikes but if you know what you're really doing, then sure. But I'll still recommend on something from Honda for the time being (CB500F, etc.)

I've always known Sport Tourers as "Standards." I LOVE them, but I'm kind of a big guy with short legs, so I'm not a big fan of anything with high seating.

I got a good price from a friend of a friend. They aren't cheap though you're right. I could have got a project car for the same price.

That's my kicker right now, I can get a used shadow or a boulevard for under 3k.

Fair enough. To each their own. When i read the post it kind of seemed like you only figured there were two kinds of bikes so i was merely just throwing it out there that other options exist. Bikes are fun. I'm 24 so i know what you're feeling in wanting one too.

I really like the FZ7 and the FZ9. If I was a few pounds lighter I'd seriously think about getting one of those.

Haven't ridden either yet, but from what I hear, the engine on the FZ-09 is amazing, but the suspension lacks some feel. The FZ8 I rode definitely didn't lack any power and had a great suspension as well. But i'm not a pro racer or anything so to me any bike feels fast and fun.

Shortsters are a lot of fun for the buck. If you have the experience, go for it. If not. Buy something to cut your teeth on and see what you think. Smaller (500 or less) is what I was thinking.

Mate, 2 wheels bad. There are only 2 types of riders. those that have been down, and those that are going down. Down here, we reffer to motorcyclists as temporary australians, or organ donors. Be careful out there.

One of my coworkers just bought a Sportster, looks identical to the picture. Now Im not really a fan of Harleys but this thing is gorgeous for what it is. I approve.

I have an 07 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 as a daily. If you don't plan on going on 1000 mile or longer rides it is a great bike. The one thing I wish it had was a 6th gear. 6th is essential for long haul rides.
Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki makes some great 1000c and under bikes. Also you can usually get them for a song.
If you have never ridden before, I would suggest a cheap used Fuel Injected bike. Nothing that could get you in trouble, but nothing that will bore you right away.
