I present to you The Stipa-Caproni "Flying Barrel," an experimental Italian aircraft designed in 1932 by Luigi Stipa. By mounting the engine and propeller inside the fuselage it formed a tapered duct and created a venturi effect.

It also has a powerful defense system:
It's hard to shoot at something when you're too busy laughing at it.

It looks like someone already shot of the front of it anyway.

I bet that thing would be a laugh to fly. Imagine it with an enclosed cockpit.

Doesn't everyone want to fly a giant toilet paper roll?

With that tiny wingspan, it sort of reminds me of this.

That's the first thing that popped into my head too. With a beefy engine I bet the tube shape could be used to achieve an incredibly low stall speed.

Lippisch-Collins Aerodyne. Lippisch was one of those crazy German engineers that came over to the US with Project Paperclip. He was kinda crazy, but he can be considered the father of the delta wing

The aerodyne was one of his dream concepts, basically it's just a vectored thrust airplane.
