I went pounding some back roads today after work on my way to a grocery store. I had this song on the sound system and everything seemedto click so I think I found the name for my FiST. Everyone, meet my newly christened Fist once again - Blue Orchid.

Her theme song is Black Orchid's song from the latest killer instinct. I am not a fan of the newest game, but hot damn is her song great for storming corners. Gotta love the line "I don't really want to let you live, baby. Come on round I'll knock you down, touch me and I'll break your face " when you line up for a jump.

I'm going to a porsche club of America autocross at the tire rack facility in indiana this weekend so we shall see if I can get another 2nd in the "non-Porsche" class and somewhat close to the 4th overall I got at the last one.

Lol, Orchid's been around for a while, she just hasn't had a name. AFAIK I'm the only FiST in the downtown grand rapids area. Also maybe in the northern forests. I blew past an impreza on my run and he looked pretty pissed that I sliced and diced himlike he was standing still.

Are all of the autocrosses at Tire Rack hosted by PCA? I'm wondering because I drove by in May and there was a Miata, a 911 Turbo S, and some Caymans (with taped numbers) driving around the track.

Way more. Much lighter on its feet and much easier to toss around in the turns. I have had no problem hanging with FoSTs at SCCA autocrosses and I completely smashed the FoST that showed up at the PCA autoX. The FiST matches my "aggressive turn-in" preferred style very nicely.

That is the type of insight that only comes from experience. My best ever "turn" was still the moment during a damp autoX where I dived down the banking into a 180 hairpin and managed to almost do a perfect brake drift to the apex in a 1997 monte carlo with 200k miles on it. There was just something about that run.......I've been chasing that turn ever since. My preferred style is a very heavy turn-in followed up by very tight apex hugging to block the inside line and letting the natural FWD understeer push me wide on corner exits. My thinking is that the car is powerful enough to make it worthwhile since the understeer push lets me use the whole width instead of just the standard car width you'd expect. That's the name of the game for the FiST - use every inch given.

Heavy throttle after delayed application. You need to setup the FoST for the turn exit and power through to the next turn. The FiST's lower pwoer/torque and lower weight mean it can be on the power longer. But the FoST rewards throttle timing quite well.
