So I head out to the local Dairy Queen last night to satisfy an ice cream craving, and as I pull in I see a Skyline GT-R parked in front. Right-hand-drive and all, almost identical to the one in this photo. How are these cars legal in the U.S.? I didn't get to talk with the owner; looked like it had out of state plates.

Very possible it could have had Ontario plates. Too dark to know for sure though.

Dunno. He dragged his air dam on the pavement backing out of the space (cringe) but got on it a little going down the road. The chirping blowoff valve sounds cool.

It could also bee fooling you into being a newer model than it is. 1989 R32's are legal in the States now. Your photo is of an R34, but here's a Canadian-registered R33 with an R34 front end on it:

There is a car restoration/tuner in Connecticut, that has a white one, they had it at Cannan Cars and Coffee last year, Forgot the name of the company, but the google can probably throw some light one it. Seen a blue one in the the East coast Nissan meet last year. So yes there are a few around, but well hidden for obvious reasons.

Oh right, forgot about the 25 year exemption. It had the R34 rear clip and the taller-looking greenhouse of the R34. (just looked up R33/R34 images to compare) Could have been Canadian; didn't get to talk with the driver. The RHD was kinda cool.

I agree with people here. I've seen a few of them over the years here in Seattle. Only a couple hours to Canada is why. They all rock BC plates.
