My neighbor has a DeTomaso Pantera. It's sitting in his garage. It is driven MAYBE once a year, and could run better because of that. Point is, how do I convince him to take me for a ride?

Just ask. No need to convince.

You can make it worth his while if asking doesn't work. Nothing money-wise.

Does he have a lawn service? Try offering to cut his front lawn or do some weeding or something.

Asking never hurts. Also if you can afford to buy lunch or something say you'll buy lunch or something like that.

Thats kind of an age restricted thing too. I'm not sure of the OPs age, but if I had a 40yo neighbor knock on my door and ask for a ride in my car then offer to mow my lawn... I'd be pretty freaked out.

Write him a poem and affix said poem to a lovely basket full of deliciously ripe fruit.

or sack up and just ask the dude

Start talking about cars and then slowly ease into the Pantera, then lay it on lightly.

Just buy the guy a six-pack. Works every time . . . provided he isn't a recovering alcoholic

As a guy who has a car some people are interested in, all it takes to get a ride is to be cool and start up a conversation about the car. Showing interest and enthusiasm goes a long way; after all, he bought the thing and presumably would be interested in talking with another enthusiast.

Most car people are cool and generous that way, if the guy's a dick not so nice, then whatevs.

You NEED to convince him to sell it to you

The FP authors have spoken

This car is going to skyrocket in value

yeah... Everyone is different... I'm sort of surprised to hear all this relationship advice. You'll just have to feel it out. I would start by getting a Pantera t shirt and just hang out where he can see you.

Just ask them. Most Pantera owners are true car nuts who would be glad to take someone out for a ride if they showed a genuine interest in their car. Go for it! :-)
