Picking up an e34 in the near future, and wanted to try something odd with it. I don't have a very good imagination... Would an american drag-y wheel look ridiculous on her? I've always loved these wheels for some reason, but never liked the cars they're on.

I just really don't want to sell out and pull off the typical bbs or alpina rim look.

The car will also be lowered a bit, although i haven't decided whether i'm going to go with the typical lowering springs setup or dive for a coilover setup from catuned. besides needing some paint repair and cleaning, i'm happy with my purchase; 530i in question:

and examples of wheels in question:

TLDR: i'm lost, what atypical rims would you toss on a lowered old german v8 sedan?

If those are basket weaves, keep them. If they are fake, the chunky 5 spoke always looks great

E34 M5 owner here. I was going to recommend M System II's but you are looking for something atypical... So the inner dubber in me has to suggest widened steelies with a polished lip!

American Racing AR39 wheels, they look identical to Hot Wheels Saw Blades. Mostly seen on trucks (both lifted and lowered) but on cars on rare occasions. Perfectly go with the 90s look.

the black cragar rims really give the e34 a sleeper look. The style 5 basketweaves are nice as well but they don't look that great lowered.

ahahaha i should've mentioned.... i have a finite budget, and with 5 minutes of googling i couldn't find a single set (including the throwing star or turbine covers) for sale!

I think the Cragars would look good. Having a concave on there would add a bit of goodness.

throw some AC schnitzer wheels on. Type 3's are gorgeous.

The black rims look better IMO

how about black steelies with a dog dish center cap and beauty rings? These are Ford steelies as a reference, minus trim rings. I think they were called for rally wheels, a bit different style than standard ford steelies.

Your choices are gonna be limited due to bolt pattern and offset/backspacing. Finding a positive-offset drag race wheel, especially in 15-inch size, is gonna be real hard.

And mess up your steering.

If you're going for the steelie look, you can get 15- and 16-in steelies in the BMW 5x120 pattern. Slap on some actual BMW dog-dishes from an 80s E28 518i, and you'd be in bidness.

In a weird case of oppo-synchronization I have Cragar rims running through my head at the moment as well.

I'm thinking about buying an E34 Touring and wanted to express my love for the American car culture with some American rims/an atypical choice for an European car.

I've also considered swapping a ford 302 in too, for plenty of the same reasons, but for now all my moneys are going towards bringing her back into good clean health. I think they'd look great, though.

Once I actually own the/a car I want to photoshop around a bit to find nice rims for it.

But like you, I believe they'll look nice on the E34 or any other big wagon for that matter:

And yes, an engine swap to a burbling V8 was also going through my mind. But the costs are unreasonable for me.
