I'll be taking my leave of absence from Oppo for a good while, or at until I'm forgotten enough that I feel comfortable coming back.
So here's why. In short, last night I had a real life situation become an Oppo want; in which some things happened good and bad, it just wasn't good for me. I went to sleep with expectation that the whole storm of comments would simply die down and go away, but no. I awoke to as many comments as last night. It was made clear that I fucked up, and I did so very badly.
So I see it best to just leave Oppo for awhile until things die down; that thread will be removed, and I'll essentially go into hiding.
Now, to any women that I may have offended last night, or any that know me here, Stef, $kay, Yamahog, I am truly sincerely sorry. It was not my goal to come out like some sexist asshole, I'm not like that; I only wished to share my experience and what I learned from it. It may have been worded in such a way that it made me appear that way, but that's not how I am; I feel very stupid and am very sad about this and I suppose I deserve some kind of roasting from you and everyone else.
That being said, I'll be leaving Oppo today, effective immediately; but not until I have time to post my final "$kaybait"(Because reasons).
So yeah, that's all. Sorry for somehow being a sexist asshole, and sorry for disappointing or offending anyone. I am grateful for the good help and advice I received last night(you know who you guys are), but I still have to go; so do yourself a favor Oppo, and forget about me. Sorry.
I'll be zipping up the flamesuit, but it's whatever I guess. Can't please everyone. I'll just have to deal with it.

FWIW, I'll say clearly, I don't think you're a sexist asshole, and I have zero desire to see you leave. Did you fuck up? In my view, yeah, you did. But we all fuck up. I am hardly an exception.
Take some time if you need to (self-care as we often term it in feminist circles), but I do hope you won't be gone too long. Certainly not long enough to forget about you.

This bothers me that people reacted to you in such a horrible way when you were vulnerable. This shouldn't be, On behalf of all of Oppo, I apologize. Opponauts should feel safe to post things like your post without judgement, You shouldn't have been treated this way, and you certainly shouldn't feel that you have to leave Oppo. I'm gonna share this comment to the FP, Powers that be: dont unshare it, This is something that everyone should see and learn from.

Just keep in mind that this is the internet and we're here on OPPO to talk about all things automotive. There aren't any limits to what you can post about on OPPO, but when you deviate from the main subject matter, remember to tread carefully. I wouldn't leave. I fucked up a few months ago and people got offended. I deleted the post and moved on. I'm not going to pretend I care weather a person stays or goes, but I think you are a great contributor to the site. With that being said, choose your paths.
BTW, the friend zone fucking sucks.

At least you don't, but U din't the same could be said about the majority of the people from last night. I know there was some good things that came from it, you of course helped me very much. But I couldn't shake the feeling that I fucked up so bad that I needed to close and shut down all connections with the friends I have, simply going into loner hermit mode.
I just don't think I've really been living life right at all now. It just made me realize how fucked up my life really is, how much time I wasted and that I'm probably doomed to repeat the problem, because history.
Thanks so much for the help, but I don't think there's much hope for me.

It wasn't even car-related, save for the pic; in that sense, I had no business posting it in the first place. Maybe I deserved it, I don't know. But maybe it'd be better for everyone if I left. I don't do things because I want to, but fir the sake of everyone else. I value everyone else more than myself.

Oh, posh. That's the hit you took to your self-esteem talking. Again, you're very young. Fucking up doesn't require you to go hermit. No one is holding a grudge, or at least they shouldn't be. And you didn't fuck up that badly. You made a pretty common young guy mistake. I can tell your remorse is genuine and you'll work on it.
Anyone have a problem with that, they can take it up with me.

It doesnt matter if it was car related or not, and maybe it didnt mesh with the Oppo ethos, but You still didnt deserve what you got, no one does. It would never be better if you left, I have a similar personality type to you, and I see myself in your posts. I understand the impulse to run and hide, Ive done it far too many times. I read the thread and I think it's a mix of getting a little too into personal stuff and some weak articulation in the post. We've all gotten ourselves into trouble at some point while learning how to treat women properly, learn from it and everythings fine. No hard feelings from most it seems and certainly not from me, maybe just stick to the winter beater posts in future haha.

K-Roll, I've screwed up far, far worse than you in the relatively recent past. (Okay, it was before I joined Oppo, but it's still relevant to this.) And yes, the commenters from last night may have been a bit harsh (probably the understatement of the year), but godfuckit, you're one of us. We had some visitors that stoked the flames of hell, and I shared the story of TwirlsWithTriangles, but don't let them chase you off.
Also, don't go into loner hermit mode. Trust me on that one... I speak with great personal experience on that one.
Anyway, fight the good fight, K-Roll. Also, to quote the great philosopher, Red Green... "If it ain't broke, you're not trying."

I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.

Listen to Kat, K-roll...you are a good contributor here...you clearly love cars and you provide some fun posts with pictures and commentary and such. Whether or not you leave is up to you, but I can tell you we all fuck up. We were all young at one time, and say and do dumb things. Memories are short here on Oppo. You recognized you made a mistake, you owned it, and you will learn from it. That is better than 90% of young dudes who will still go on thinking the same way. Leaving isn't going to help your self-esteem, staying and just talking cars for awhile might. I can pretty much say that in a few days people will forget you were "that guy that talked about friend zone" and you will be "that guy that posts about Porshces all the time." If I were you...I would edit this post and say that you had a change of heart. You sincerely apologize..and move on.

Leaving is the easiest thing...it is easy just to crawl back and feel bad for making a mistake. Because you are a good person you feel ashamed and don't want to face the people that you think you may have let down. But remember...it is easier to move on here than it is in the real world. At some point in time you have to face people in person when you mess up, that is harder. So take a break for a day or two, but come back find a Porsche video or a picture and whatever and share with us. Memories are short, and no one will bring it up.

A comment from your post was shared to Groupthink (essentially Jezebel's version of oppo). Not knowing you or your situation, not being from this site, and being angry feminists, uh... what happened happened. I'm very sorry about that.
But the replies I saw from members of oppo seemed supportive and/or dissentingly respectful. No one's really mad at you for the winter beater fiasco, either. That post from the other night was entirely a joke, pretty much.

Having not seen the post, it's difficult to see what went down and how bad it truly was.
That being said, having thicker skin, particularly on the internet is never a bad thing. You're a younger guy, you're gonna do some irrational or incorrect things. It's all a matter of how you use those things as a learning experience. Leaving Oppo won't actually solve anything, and will probably just make you stew and wonder how you could have done things differently or what you could have changed.
When you fall off a bicycle, you pick yourself back up and try again. We've all had those moments before. You can't let them get you down and stand in the way of something you like doing, like hanging out and posting on Oppo.

I understand the desire, even just reading the fallout made me want to put oppo (all of gawker, really) in my rearview mirror. But feelings pass, and a bit of perspective may be in order.
You came seeking advice from like-minded (at least in terms of hobbies/interests) people, but instead were thrown into a den of people who actively seek out people like you to shout down, to bolster their own sense of superiority.
It's one thing if you knew it was coming, but you were taken advantage of by someone. This is not a good reason to walk away.

I have yet to find a single person who has never made a mistake, but I've met plenty of people who haven't learned from the ones they made. Take what you can from whatever happened, be an adult and admit your mistake (which you've done), take your lumps, make your apologies, and move on. We are not judged by our mistakes, rather by how we handle them.

I just don't know what I have/want/need to do. All I know is what I can do, and leavings all I've got left.

Definitely stick around - you will probably remember this but no one else will beyond the end of the day. Plus filling Oppo with a ton of Porsche pictures pushes this thread down quick.
Get out there and have some fun - yeah you had your heart broken, but let me tell ya, that will happen a few times more in your life. The troll wounds will heal. If you don't give something a chance to happen it won't. And there will be times when you think the feeling is mutual, but it isn't or isn't yet. Just move on - the universe will abide.
On the positive side I think you actually may have got less grief than the guy who said he liked Buick Reattas a couple of days ago.
Definitely get yourself together for engineering school. Many guys in engineering think they have no chance with their female classmates given the odds, but they are wrong and missing out big time. I've been out of engineering school for a while, and I know way too many female classmates and colleagues that can't find a decent guy even though they have skills (as an example one I know is a world-class sailor, another did bushflying in Curtiss C-46's and DC-3s for a while), have tons of other accomplishments, have bank balances best described in scientific notation and are a blast to be around. I married a Mech and I don't regret a thing.

My reaction: :'( You shouldn't leave, you're one of the most active guys around here and you give me my full of old 911 stories.

It just changed the way I saw life, and how I was wrong in the way I viewed and lived my life up to this point.

Yes indeed. We've lost too many major contributors following the switch to versions of Kinja, I'm not allowing more to leave for honestly rather unimportant reasons. Off topic: saw a cayman 3s (or something like that) last night and thought of you

Dances- In the future, print your email as something like this: cscupples(AT)gmail(DOT)com. Spammers have "spiders" roaming the internet specifically looking for email addresses printed out as examplemail@example.com. Once a spider finds an email address like that, it brings it back to the spammer, who adds it to his list of email adresses to spam for fun and profit. Gmail has a pretty good spamfilter, but it's a sane idea just to cover your bases here.
