Wifey's been eyeing a used SLK to replace her Camry. "Shouldn't one of us have a practical car though?" she asked. Between us, we'd have two 2-seater convertibles and a noisy rice rocket with vestigial back seats. Maybe a motorcycle as well.

Do you have kids? Do you move a lot a of stuff?

Exactly, why do you need anything that can hold more than groceries? Or by practical does she mean a slk 55 for safe amounts of passing power.

SLK55's are stellar. Do it. Practical is overrated.

Nope. We can get away with it now, but it's just weird being such an unrepentant gearhead and having that bleed over into my wife's previously practical worldview.

I hate you. I've been browsing these all weekend, but getting one for the wife would be like handing a high caliber revolver to someone who'd only seen BB guns before. The plastic pellet spring action kind.

Then get the slk55. Buy 2 passes to the AMG driving Academy, one for you and one for the wife. Make a little vacation out of teaching her to drive something awesome. Or just get her one anyway. They are surprisingly mild when you're just cruising around. I have a regular customer who has one and happens to be a recently retired lady, bought the car solely for its looks and had never driven a fast car before. She does just fine.
