We had an invasion recently in Austin, Texas. It was in the form of a giant parking lot that was taken over by Corvettes. Corvettes of all shapes and sizes...
We went there specifically for a purpose - to talk about !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! 's mission of holding charitable rallies to Corvette enthusiasts or whoever else showed up to the event that had an interest in driving and rallies.
Here's a before picture...
And after.....
I think that final count was somewhere in the 500 range..but not sure.
Being at places which draws out tons and tons of auto enthusiasts is generally the ideal market for MOTOGUD participants. It's all about driving games for people who like to drive. I met Ryan (mastermind behind MOTOGUD) not too long ago and have been helping him spread the word. In case you're interested there's an interview here....pretty interesting guy! A former stock broker and investor turned rally master.

Setting up a tent at Corvette Invasion actually meant a lot of work...as you would imagine. Putting up tents proved to be more difficult than we originally thought, because they came broken. Yes - brand new from the store, one of the metal legs of the tent was literally cracked in half!
We set up a TV which was looping a promo video, had flyers laid out and brought lots of water. It's in Austin so temperatures were nearing 100 degrees Farenheit. So the shade of the tent definitely helped!
Ryan printed an awesome "MOTOGUD" banner. I was probably standing about 100 feet away when I took that picture and it was still visible. Btw, that's the tent that was broken. I'm actually not sure where Ryan bought the tent because guess what? The replacement tent that he bought from the same store broke in almost the exact same spot!
Aaron, one of the MOTOGUD guys invited some of his cute friends to talk about MOTOGUD and sell its mission. I took a picture of him taking pictures of the sales process . I would say that they were successful in getting auto enthusiasts signed up for future rallies and in general making people aware of MOTOGUD. Not really hard to imagine why they were successful, right?
I chronicled the journey of setting up a "MOTOGUD presence" at Corvette invasion in a series of carefully edited 20 second clips taken on my iPhone.
So, besides helping out MOTOGUD, I decided to check out some of the Corvettes myself. I came across an AstroVette which I had never heard of before the event. Apparently there were three built and this is the last one remaining on earth. GM built these specifically for astronauts for $1 each!! Now that's pretty cool.
This one specifically was built for Alan Bean.
Besides the usual Corvettes that you would see, for example, the C4, C5, C6, Z06, ZR1, I came across this.
I don't really know anything about this one other than what I saw. It's apparently a ZR8X - fully customized from ground up. The wheel well flared out super wide and I heard someone saying it was all fiber glass. Yeah, I think someone put a lot of money into their ZR8X.
As you would expect, this car drew a lot of attention and understandably so. It looked like a Corvette, but definitely much wider and just about everything was modified. Maybe the side-view mirrors remained stock? Who knows..
I saw this that really bugged me..
A vintage Corvette with C6 wheels....seriously? Completely ruined the car for me.
But all in all, I would say we had a good time at Corvette Invasion and I was able to help Ryan and the MOTOGUD guys generate more awareness. I'm glad to help in any way that I can. Good stuff!

This isn't a vintage corvette, it looks like something with a C1 fascia. The windshield is all wrong for a C1

Oh man, you're right! I just noticed the side view mirrors. This is horrible!

It's probably a C6 with a hideous bodykit.
I like the C1, but the C1 style only works on a C1...

That's crazy. I didn't check out the whole car, just the front end. But wow, this is just wrong!
