So I'm likely to switch over to Verizon soon. I'm debating between the top end Motorola, or doing what I've been thinking of trying for a year or two- grabbing a Lumia Icon and switching to Windows.

Kinja'd!!!

Any opinion on Verizon, Windows Phone, and any other non-Apple or Samsung pones on Verizon? I'd really like to try out WP, and honestly when people talk about lack of apps, I don't use ten million Android apps as it is. I generally use a few apps, mostly web and phone functionality. Plus the nice as heck camera is really a plus to me, as I don't own a dedicated camera.

Any opinions are welcome! I honestly do not like Apple products or Samsung, I have my reasons. 100% won't be able to talk me into an iPhone, almost certain I won't get a Samsung.

I've got an ATT Lumia 920 on the WP 8.1 Dev preview and I love it.

There are plenty of apps in the WP store. Unless you are using something Android specific, I very much doubt you will find yourself wanting. Check out the online WP app store and see if the ones you do know you'd want are there first.

No idea how Verizon compares otherwise. As I'm the 8.1 Dev preview I've pretty much ignored anything carrier related until the full update is released. ATT takes f.o.r.e.v.e.r to release updates. Verizon is probably the same.

WP is a great OS. I think you'll like it quit a bit.

I've had a Galaxy S3 for almost 2 years and no issues. But yeah, I agree - stay away from iPhones :P

I am not a phone or tech guy. I want something that works and doesn't give me trouble. Father of three, work from home job with a VOIP international phone line - I use their app to make calls through my smartphone. Anyway, I have the Moto X, and I absolutely love it. I love Google Assist - it speaks to me when I'm driving and when I am at home (if I want it to, if I'm working on the car or just need to be hands-free). I can set reminders, which I do about 12 times a day, and I can set them to remind me at a certain time or place (i.e. when I pick up the kids at camp, the phone will know to remind me to get milk on the way home). The only negative for me is that it is delicate, or at least the first one I had was! I dropped it from about 2 feet onto a tile floor, with the Otterbox Commuter case, and the screen shattered. I bought the most-extreme Otterbox case for the replacement, so it weighs twice as much. If you're really careful with your phone, this one is beautiful and fits in your pocket better than anything, but I destroy stuff regularly so I will never see the beauty :(. That's all I got.

good input, it seems really my choice will have to be made on OS between the Moto and the Nokia. Thanks!

Samsung has generally been decent, but I feel like they get bogged down quicker than others sometimes, as I saw in my family's Samsugns. S4, S3, and 3 of the budget samsungs they are using currently.

They are good phones, I just don't tend to like them really.

did you switch from Android? If so, how was the transition?

I'd stick with Android... WP has next to no apps.

Nope. Switched from iOS. Never looked back honestly.

I still keep my old iPhone 3GS around for playing podcasts, but that's only because I have my music in iTunes, and have a dock in the kitchen for the iPhone and I listen when I clean up/do the dishes.

The only app I'd want in the WP store is a movie cataloging app my wife uses on her iPhone. That's it.

Honestly, this seems to be an old form of thought. Sure, it has less. But it has what I'll need and more nowadays.

I'm also thinking of starting mobile development for fun, and since the windows market isn't over saturated with complete crap like Android is, it may be better for me.

It is true that there are more apps for Android, and a few that are very useful WP might not have. But I highly doubt it is anything I would use.

I made the switch to Verizon from AT&T a couple of years ago and it's been a good change for me. But it really depends on where you live—I'd try a friend's Verizon phone to check the phone / data coverage in your usual haunts before you make the switch. Good luck with your choice!

LG G3, I love actually being able to use my phone and not need to rush to find a charger. Never again will I get a phone that doesn't have a 2 day battery life.

WP 8.1 will have Cortana, the built in voice/search assistant. She's awesome.
