Which makes a bit more sense since the character also uses a .45 kimber 1911 and it would take the same ammo. Also almost all of north america was destroyed in a nuclear war and the story takes place in Northern Africa and Southern Europe, so it also makes it kind of an exotic weapon. Plus who doesn't love the Chicago Typewriter?

The Thompson has a history in North Africa and Southern Europe as well.

This post is so cool.
Also, there should be tons of Merc 300 sedans in north africa.

Well I got about 10k words. When I get to a good stopping point for the story for the time being, I'll edit it and put it up on oppo.

I've written a few books, my suggestion:
For every 10 pages of written words, have 2-3 pages of outline written. For every 10 sentences, have 2-3 sentences of summary prewritten. For every 10 paragraphs, have 2-3 paragraphs of description prewritten. As in, plan out the book in pre-written sentences in extreme story detail in advance. It makes the whole writing process easier and, if you ever get a point where you aren't sure where it will go next, you have a clear roadmap for what should follow. The point is that there is never a point in the writing process where you don't have a task ahead of you, which is the #1 cause of writer's block.
You can let the creative juices flow in the outline, and you can let the writing ability and linguistics take front and center in the actual writing.

For post-apocalypse I would have thought a good idea would be to go with a 762x39 like the AK47 or the SKS? The ammo is plentiful everywhere and you save the .45 ammo for the 1911

Well it's not post apocalyptic. This takes place 50 years afterwards and for the most part the rest of the world is a fuctioning society. The main character is a head member of a "terrorist cell" rebellion group that has lots of financial backing. Though I do have a character that does use an AK-47 and a Glock 17.

personally the scar 17s or scar-h in military spec is my favorite. Potent, badass, armor piercing, and likely the next service weapon of the U.S. Military. Looking forward to the first part of the story on oppo though.

I just bought one a few months ago. Awesome piece of history, 70 years later it is still running like a champ. *Manufacture date was Feb 1945

If they have lots of financial backing, then MP7 or P90. However, go with the FAMAS is a solid bad-assery option too. ~1200 rounds per minute of armor piercing lead.

Lol, AK-47 and a G17 has to be the most reliable loadout possible.

You can get them for about $650 from the CMP. Take a look
