So I don't know about you guys but I've always like the looks of the Lexus CT200h, and the new face lift looks even better.
What I don't get is why the hell it's a hybrid, or rather why it's ONLY a hybrid. I always assumed it was b/c it's just a re-badged Prius, but it's not. It's actually based on the Scion TC chassis. So why is it only available in hybrid form? This could be a nice "fun" car if it had a decent engine, and a manual trans.
The only thing I can think of is it's hybrid only, because a regular FWD hatchback seems to normal for a higher trim company like Lexus. But now they have an F Sport version which REALLY disgraces the F badge. I mean Lexus F has brought us come bad ass cars, and now also a Hybrid with a bodykit. Why not a turbocharged, 2.5l, upscale hot hatch, something that actually owns up to the F sport badge on it's fenders.
Anyway I'll share the video that got me thinking of this.

I say this every time someone brings up the CT200h, because I too really like the way it looks.
If they just took the powertrain from this and put it into the F-sport model, it would be a huge hit. I would really love an AWD performance hatchback hybrid.

I always assumed it was a skinned Prius too. How about that.
Since it is a TC underneath, I wonder if one could just swap drivetrains? But then you'd be stuck with a TC. Although a 2JZE swap...

i think it looks a lot better from the rear than the front. I'm not a fan of the predator grill. It could have been a nice FocuST/WRX/GTI competitor

It's Toyota's CRZ. Decent looking, no good drivetrain. There must be some logic behind it since Toyota and Honda both made that decision....but damned if I know what it was.

Corolla chassis actually.
The face-lift is better, especially the F-Sport. But it's got no balls. Damn things can barely get out of their own way. I have to put it in 'Sport' mode to get them to get anywhere with a sense of urgency.
Better tires and some lower springs might help make it more fun to toss around since they won't go fast.
Then again, my daily is an SVT Focus, so I'm spoiled just a bit.

The ct200h is actually a Toyota Auris (as in Yaris) in drag. I like the shape of the ct, but the performance is snoozetown.

That F-Sport in matador Red, mmmmmmm!!!

2JZE would mean a single cam carburated engine. You can't swap a 2JZ-GE/GTE into a FWD car. It's too long and no FWD tranny would fit.

It COULD be made to fit, with the right amount of money. But I get your point.

I thought it was obvious tC -> CT. There was already a Prius based Lexus, but no one bought it.
of course like many other Lexusesesees, it looks better with the predator grille.

If you widened the car by a foot or two. It really is a long engine to put in a FWD car. Still, there have been I-6 FWD cars (Suzuki Forenza comes to mind.....and nothing else)

I wish they had a base CT160 non-hybrid. and a CT-F with VVTL-i and/or turbo

I like the car overall, but not the grill. On all the other Lexi the side bits come together, but here it makes a wonky sabertooth tiger grill. It would be nice if they offered Prius sized wheels for thoses that realize a hybrid wagon is never going to handle that well.

Thanks for taking away all my fun.. ;)

It's because if they made one version with a 2.5l turbo, then all CT200h loses their self-satisfactory hybrid status.
If there was a non-hybrid version of a prius, then people would stop buying a prius because it wouldn't be obvious that they were 'saving the environment'.

sorry.

It's fine that it's a hybrid, I just wish they would soup it up somehow and make a sportier variant.
I love the thing, I think it looks fantastic.

honestly I think trying to make sporty hybrid is a waste of time. I know all the best super cars right now are hybrids blah blah blah.

I disagree. Electric motors for instant torque? Gas motor so it's not limited on range? Hybrid so it's efficient? I think sporty hybrids will be amazing in a few years if the P1/TheFerrari/928 tech trickles down.

No I want engine noise and a clutch, and manual steering, and a GD throttle cable. Speed and numbers aren't the only factors in the equation of what makes a car fun. Just recently I was riding in a friends S4 on a road I like to drive my Civic on. I thought to myself "why is he going so slow, then saw that we were going 10mph than I would normally go in my Civic on a particular turn. Point is My Civic has to hustle to maintain that speed, you have to be on your toes pushing it limits to go that speed. The S4 felt slower, and my buddy looked bored because it was still in it's comfort level. I just don't think at as enthusiast we can support technology making cars less fun to drive.
That ending up being a rant, and I apologize for that. lol

Speak for yourself.
Theres a time and place for old technology. I'm all for hybrid sports cars, if you don't want one don't buy it
