1. The Range Rover Evoque uses a Ford Ecoboost engine
2. The Range Rover Evoque's platform is based off of the Ford EUCD platform
3. Said platform is shared by the: Ford Mondeo/Fusion, Ford Galaxy, Volvo S60, S80, V70, Land Rover Freelander
Some Land Rovers are British with a bit of American in them. Land Rover is owned by Jaguar Land Rover which was previously owned by Ford, but now is a subsidiary of Tata Motors. So they're also Indian.
Then I did some thinking about the naming scheme of Land Rover. Although not as bad as !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , it's almost as confusing. Why is the Range Rover Evoque even called what it is? How is this thing in an way similar to the Range Rover or the Range Rover Sport? The Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover Evoque are three completely different cars, with the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport somewhat a bit more similar to each other, with the Range Rover Sport riding on a modified platform of the Range Rover. And it gets more confusing for non car people, if you include the manufacturer name "Land Rover":
Land Rover Range Rover, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque.
Here's what I mean: ask any non car person, who the manufacturer of the Evoque is. I'd say at least half of them would tell you "Range Rover", but Range Rover is a model name, not the manufacturer which would be Land Rover. It used to be even more confusing.
The previous generation (2006-2013) Range Rover Sport looked very similar to L322 Range Rovers, even more similar than the current generation Range Rover/Range Rover Sport when compared. Did you know that it was a completely different car? Unless you're a car guy or read Jalopnik, you probably didn't. Unless they were parked side by side, I bet most people can't even tell the difference between the two. I myself thought the Sport was a trim level of the Range Rover until a few years ago. From my understanding, the Range Rover Sport was actually a Discovery underneath (integrated body frame), whereas the unibody Range Rover used its own platform. The Sport is a slightly smaller car. If the two cars were related, they would be second cousins once removed. Oh but they also sold a Discovery at the same time, choosing to call it the LR3 in America.
My message to LR executives: name the RR Sport and RR Evoque something else, please. It's confusing for everyone. Just call them the "Sport" and "Evoque".
Land Rover Range Rover Evoque coupe for your time.

Or just make Range Rover a subsidiary like Ram is now a subsidiary of Chrysler instead of being a Dodge.

Here's a bit of trivia - in the UK at least, if you took a Disco and hitched it up to the largest permissible trailer size and loaded it up, technically you'd need an HGV license because of the huge weight.

They might be a subsidiary already. I don't know and it's too confusing to find out. I also have a problem with the RAM brand. The Tradesman is a freaking Grand Caravan which already exists as a Dodge, but is being sold under the RAM brand!

I know it's annoying, I don't know why they made it a completely separate company.

A quick trip to Wiki and..
"The
Range Rover

four-wheel drive
sport utility vehicle
(SUV) produced by British car maker
Land Rover
, a subsidiary of
Jaguar Land Rover

It's a separate brand, not a separate company. Yeah, it's confusing.

Well yeah. Was this a move by Chrysler or Fiat though?

So it's both a model and a brand.

Well RAM separated from Dodge in 2009, which is controlled by Chrysler Group LLC. And although Fiat S.p.A. (not the brand Fiat Automobiles) was partial owner of Chrysler Group LLC, it didn't become majority shareholder until 2011. So technically, this was a move by Chrysler LLC.

Ok, I didn't know if S.p.A made the decision or if it was Chrysler. Thanks for letting me know.

There is a difference of height between the hood and the dashboard, so they added a black line on the windscreen to cover it up. This was because it was based on a Discovery.
So the first RR Sport is not really a Range Rover, the new one though, it's different since he shares the same underpinnings as his big brother.

Probably as many people for some unknown reason don't associate Land Rover and Range Rover as a manufacturer and model within a range from said manufacturer. Yes Land Rover badges adorn the Range Rover in many places on the car but many see land Rover as the Defender, Freelander and Discovery with Range Rover being another company entirely so to them it would merely mean Range Rover Evoque, Sport and just Range Rover.

Makes sense, I completely understand your point. However, Land Rover markets the Range Rover as both a model of Land Rover and as a separate brand, but not a separate company (from what others have commented). No other car company does this, hence the confusion.
