The Honda Aircraft Company prepares for a big week at AirVenture in Oshkosh this week, debuting its serial number 1 production version of its much anticipated private jet. From assembly to first flight watch as the very first HondaJet takes to the skies.

The jet is most notable for its unique Over-The-Wing Engine Mount configuration and is claimed to achieve higher speed, better fuel efficiency, and a larger, more spacious cabin than other light jets in this class of aircraft.

Have they announced when deliveries are supposed to start?

Edit: curious, not deliberately being a smartass.

The first flight was 11 years ago, and the first production model is only debuting now...aviation is a crazy world.

I dunno, but it will probably beat the NSX to market.

Sorry I am being a smartass...

It's not like the car world at all. Though Honda can be forgiven for taking a little bit longer than usual, even for the aviation world. The economic SNAFU of 2008 put a bit of a damper on funding.

I know, I feel like I've been seeing/hearing about this thing at Oshkosh for years.

I hope it taxis up to show center, the door opens, and ASIMO waddles out looking like he has to take a major dump.

I was pretty excited when I saw it in 2006. Then disappointed when it never went anywhere. Now I'm excited again. Also fun fact, Ken Griffey Jr. has had a deposit on one since the beginning.

I deleted my snarky comment about the HomdaJet. If this thing comes out and has an awesome dispatch rate, then I'll be impressed. If it comes out and it's basically average for the LJ market, it will have to be chalked up as merely hype.

Eh. I don't think they can just be forgiven.

First flight was in 2002 or 2003, it should not take this damn long. Recession or not.

Last I heard public sales deliveries will be started in Q2 of 2015. We'll shall see if it can compete with the likes of Cessna and Embraer.

What's going on with the PFD at 44 sec.? Is the plane capable of flying backwards? Or is the plane high, the tail number is after all 420?

I remember seeing a HondaJet there in 2006 when I started working for the AirVenture staff. It was obviously a non-functioning version, but this thing has been in the pipeline FOREVER. Its about time we see it fly.

My best guess is the GPS is acquiring its position on startup.

Neat! I only saw it in the Honda tent with the super bikes. I liked the CBR1000RR they had in yellow and blue. That actually sparked my love for sport bikes.
