No. Automatics don't get boots. Stop this.

I know GMC did this in the Envoy

Good thing all Benz's come with column shifters now.
Audi's guilty of using boots on their auto shifters.

Go find that pic of the Cimmeron that was posted earlier. I think it had one, too.

Just for that, Imma put a manual level cover on my auto shifter.

That transmission boot is lying!

not all benzes. Just C/E/S.

And all the SUVs, if my memory serves me correctly.

I see no problem with this.

and CLA. Im not sure about G-class.

Autos belong on the column. It just makes sense, and leaves the center free for more storage or three-abreast seating.

RED SEATS.

It tries really hard to look like a manual. Dishonesty bugs me. I really thought I was looking at a manual until I noticed the lack of a clutch pedal, which made me look back at the picture of the shifter and let out a disappointed "oh..."
![]() 07/24/2014 at 14:45 |

G-Class has a console.
So nearly all of them.

Agreed. Which is why I don't understand why people bash GM for using column shifters in their trucks/SUVs.

Somebody should get really creative and stick on a PRNDL on the left side of their manual, and throw one of those ugly button-having auto shift knobs on.

Oh, that's hot.

"Nah, man. It's an auto. You got this"
*sound of grinding gears*

Dude. I...like my automatic boot. Depends on the car honestly.

Always assume everything is an auto till you read about it.

Find their S4 review on YouTube. I can't link it because I'm at wörk right now.

Because it seem everyone hates GM.

Even before everyone hated GM, they'd still complain about it being on the column.
I for one welcome the open real-estate on the console.

"Don't you see the parking brake? Down there, on your left? I swear its auto."

But even Ford and I'm pretty sure Dodge do as well. My dads Mercury has column his work truck, a F250, also has column.

Yeah, that's where my parking brake is and after driving JayhawkJake's 6-speed Sonic I got in my car and... immediately held down the parking brake wondering where the stick was.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 15:25 |

Yeah, that looks too much like a manual transmission.
My DCT shifter has a boot on it but nobody would mistake it for a manual.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 15:29 |
|
Yeah, if it must be floor/console mounted that's about the way to do it. Is that a pushbutton parking brake on the stick and two other buttons on the sides?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 15:32 |
|
A dial is fine too
![]() 07/24/2014 at 15:33 |

The button on the top is to engage P. There's still a regular pull-up handle parking brake though.
The button on the side similar in function the usual auto shifter button—you need to hold it in while shifting. The difference is since this thing is basically just a joystick, it'll still move without the button pushed.
If you try to shift without using the button, the car dings at you and flashes an icon of the shifter with an arrow pointing at the button, to tell you "PUSH THE BUTTON DUMMY."

Most AMG variants don't have column shifters.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 17:37 |

I disagree. It's all a matter of execution, a boot can be pulled off as long as it's not trying to pass as a manual.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 17:52 |
|
I agree, that's pretty well done (is that a Concorde?) but when it's styled like in the image I used... just no.

300M. Same difference.

Does it look better with a boot? Then it gets a boot. Is it trying to look like a manual? No. It's trying to look classier.
I get it. I don't like driving automatics either, and I'm sad that I now own a car with one. But this is seriously a ridiculous argument and I hope you realize that.
