Saw Ferris Bueller last night...were there really that many K cars and Chevy Celebrities in the 80's?

Yes, and they all ended up in high school parking lots in the early 90s where either the kids, rust, or poor maintenance inevitably erased most evidence of their existence.

yes, in the US. I have clear memories of my 2 years living in Atlanta in the 80s.

A few survived to the late 90s as the standard "here's-your-big-brother's-old-car" car. They usually had at least one nearly blown subwoofer in the trunk by this point and smoked impressively on start-up.

And I could sing you songs of the rod-knocks! OHHHH THE ROD KNOCKS!

Each generation of hoons gets it's own gifts and challenges . You'll soon learn yours and you will embrace them! My generation dealt with the last of the Malaise Monsters, but better things were on the horizon (for example, the Chevy LS1 was born in 1997). We should both be glad we weren't born in the early 60s! They had to drive clapped-out Malaise barges in high school (late 70s/early 80s), then they had nothing better than IROC Camaros, Dodge Diplomats, and Ford Tempos until they got into their 30s!!!

My grandparents used to have a Dodge Shadow that was apparently a "present" from someone...isn't that pretty close to a K car? They sold it when they moved though, cuz they have an XV30 Camry V6...
