Stumbled across !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! mod on VW Vortex. I figure I might as well try it out on my 24v VR6, providing nobody sees any real issues with it. I figure it's free and mostly reversible, so why not?

I did this to my wife's Cavalier. it made sound a little less like it wass going to die at anything over 3500RPM.

Was it noticeable? Also, any codes? I seem to have landed myself the only MkIV without a CEL, and I'd kinda like to keep it that way.

I hadn't seen pictures before, but the other way it is done is with drilling dime sized holes, hence the swiss cheese name.

No and No. S4 under high boost have a tendency to collapse the accordion intake hose, so cutting the airbox will fix it.

I do remember after I cheesed my Jetta III the biggest difference it made was the sound.

Did it on my NA. Boy it turns a car into another animal sound wise. So much that you can't stop putting the pedal to the metal.

I'm sorry for your loss, I can't imagine what tragedy you suffered to be browsing vw vortex but the mod itself looks quite nice and fairly simple.

The only difference it will make is the sound. There are other threads that have tested all of the different intake mods and none of them really do anything, some actually cause loss in power.

Based on the threads I read, it can make a difference with my engine. I just did the mod, it's not significant enough power wise to really call it for sure yet, but it definitely sounds better.

Right, you have the VR. With the 1.8T it doesn't do scheisse

Yeah, just looking at the box I can see where some added flow would make a difference. The inlet is teeny. Even if it didn't add anything, it's worth it for that noise.
