I'd love to own that Packard sitting there in front of a airship that would dwarf even the largest 747. Anyone know what what powered these gigantic futuristic flying machines?

The one you pictured is a Graf Zeppelin, I believe it's LZ 127, better known as the USS Los Angeles (Z.R.3).

It is powered by 5 Maybach V12s

Very impressive. It's too bad they got perceived as dangerous. I would love to travel in one.

It's a shame that the hindenberg disaster is so famous, and was so epically bad. It was a tragedy, yes, but it would be a different story if, say, the bag just collapsed and it crashed in the ocean. The fact that it went up in huge flames and burnt to the ground in minutes with a man yelling 'Oh the humanity' has basically killed any hope for passenger zeppelins on that scale.

The Zeppelins were like cruise ships in the sky, and with modern technology you could make a pretty incredible flying cruise ship. I would love to take a sky cruise over the alps, for example, but it's never going to happen because even though modern dirigibles are very safe the general public just assumes they are all giant gas bombs just waiting to explode.

In pedantic news, it's an airship. There was only one Graf Zeppelin, which unlike many of its sister ships managed not to crash in flames.

There were two Graf Zeppelin named ships, LZ 127 and LZ 130
