$2000 for a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! - except for that pesky front end damage. The seller claims the car still runs perfectly, which I find kind of hard to believe, but he/she also describes the accident as low-speed, so there's that. How much would this cost to get fixed up nice?

unless you have a donor car do not do it. Replacement parts are pricey, even aftermarket. You would need a shop to give you a estimate on price though.

If it's just cosmetic, which means bumper + hood + headlight (drivers side looks good to me) not too much.
You can get a high quality M5 replica bumper for $399, you can get a hood from a junkyard, and a new OEM headlight for another $325 (you'll find a much better deal, this is just the first price I found).
I'm not sure how much paint will cost for the bumper and if the hood will also need to be repainted, but honestly it's not that much cosmetically. I'd guess around $1200 total, cheaper if you get a used bumper and used headlight.
See if you can talk them down to $1750. Car is gonna be worth way more than $2k once it's fixed.

I wouldn't touch it. There are so many parts in that general area that you can't even see. Not to mention hoses and fluids, radiator, miscellaneous coolers, clips, plastic air dam and trim pieces, bumper supports, crush cans, wiring, etc. You will never come out ahead on this car.

Body shop guy here! To do it right, a shit ton. At least $2500. You would have to get a new right fender, new bumper, new hood, new headlights, chances are a new radiator and fan and I bet there would be a minor damage to the front of the frame. We just had a Jetta wagon in with the same damage in last week.

Was that a low-speed accident with a black hole?

Good god, what does a high speed accident look like according to that seller?
Stay away from that, I could see that being a total nightmare.

I did a fairly similar thing to my E36 :S
So far, it's cost me about £110 fixing it myself. The wing was a bit more knackered than on this car, so it required heating up with an oxy-acetylene blowtorch and bending back into shape with a hammer and pliers. Finish isn't great on the inner wing, but it's the right shape.
From there I've bought a wing (£15), radiator and fan (£15), headlights (£20 for both), front clip (£10), bonnet (£40), washer bottle (£2), bonnet latch mechanism (£3) and front brace (£5).
It's still not quite done, but I've bought all the bits I need :)
Check it for damage to the crash structure though. Mine was fine, but if the E39's is bent then it's probably beyond an amateur's expertise to fix.

When my girlfriend crashed her dad's E36, it wasn't near that damaged, but it still cost $5k plus to fix to where you can't tell it happened.

with new parts? A lot. Headlights, about $120 to $400 for a set, hood I don't even know. The biggest issue is if the radiator mounts and front frame rails are tweaked. Depending on where you are, I would walk away at $2000. Unless the rest of it is in some kind of immaculate shape and has new suspension all around.

This was a ~25mph crash, so I believe it.

There's gotta be some frame damage, right? No way it's still perfectly straight.

In which case avoid. Cheap to do yourself, expensive to pay someone else.
It's not that hard to learn tbh, but you'd have to for this to make sense :S

I wouldn't consider 25 mph to be low speed. It's not high speed, but that would definitely be enough to rattle you.

Well that was one moving car, one stopped, so if you had two cars going 12.5, the result would be similar, so I could see where a ~10mph crash could do the damage pictured no problem.
