Fuck. I could never get Der, Die, and Das right.

It's definitely tricky — I get confused on a lot of them, too. Worse is when you've got two things in front of the noun (like "einer wunderschöne Targa" above). Gotta remember that the first one defaults to -er, and the 2nd gets the change.

Not to be a dick, but it's Der Targa.

Und so ein wunderschöner Targa. :D

You sure? I've read German articles on it that refer to it as "Die Targa".

Very sure. We Germans always call it Der Targa (most 911s are actually a "Der" because the article refers to the Brand Porsche (Der Porsche), so it's "Der Turbo, Der GT3, Der 4S..."), and so does Porsche on their website: http://www.porsche.com/germany/models…

Ah, scheiße. You're right. The article I was reading was referring to 'der Targa Modelle' — the new model (f).

From Porsche.de — 'Mit dem Targa...'

I still love how, even though just about every car and bike manufacturer is "Der", you guys insist that it's "Die Harley Davidson". ;)

German - a horribly complicated language. So glad I don't have to learn it.

I've been learning it for 10 years, still have to think about "RESE / NESE / MRMN".

...great, now all the ads on Jalopnik are showing me Porsches. DAMN YOU!

(wait, this isn't such a bad thing)

It's strange, isn't it? It also is "Die Ducati" and "Die BMW (if it's a nike)", I guess because we also often call a bike "Die Maschine".

My mum teaches German, and most people struggle. A lot.

Not to be a dick either, but you are wrong too.

In German we say "der Targa".

It's very confusing because it's "das Targadach" (Targa roof). But since we say "der 911", "der Targa" is short for "der 911 Targa".

And: "Ein wunderschöner Targa" is correct here.

The first one doesn't default to "-er" it's the other way around. The second word has to be altered:

"Ein wunderchönes Cabriolet", "Ein toller Porsche". See?

It's complicated...

..and I made a mistake too.

"Ein wunderschönes Cabriolet".

I forgot the "s" there. ;-)
