If they are AWD they are incredible in snow. I was the only person in my neighborhood to be able to drive after a snow and ice storm.

Reliability: Get a warranty.

Cost of maintenance: Hope you're buying new, as they come with free maintenance.

They are roomy, solid, luxury cars.

I bought one a while ago, a 1985 244GL, puts a smile on my face every time I see it sitting in the garage, too bad that's the only place I see it...

All kidding aside, they are pretty reliable, just spend more than I did and get one that actually runs from the beginning.

Norsk racer? er du Norsk? All Volvos are awesome in snow (well, not the 480, but that's a shitty car anyhow)...

Kind of, through heritage. Nationally I'm an American of Norwegian descent.

Ahh.. so it won't help you if I write stuff in Norwegian then :) Anywho, volvos are great.. sturdy cars and all.. I'd go for a 7 or 9 series, newish cars with tons of aftermarket parts in the US, and RWD BABY!!! ;)

1 - They drive well in the snow, they have lots of traction...obviously if the tires are good. If not we have to tow them out of their parkings in really cold days where the wheels are frozen in ice.

2 - Pretty good compared to others. They mostly have electrical issues...and leaking injector wiring. Most issues are fixed during the warranty time.

3 - Maintenance is pretty good compared to others again, but if you have a late Volvo engine in there...you gonna cry when you have to fix stuff yourself...

4 - VN VOLVOS ARE AWESOME!!!

I can try to understand it as I know a little bit as I knew what you were asking but I don't fully know the language sadly. I'd love to learn it though.

Most RWD OVLOV cars are above average winter cars. It really depends on what kind of shoes they happen to be wearing.

I gave my ex-wife a 740 GLE (16v) a few years back that was practically unstoppable on the Nokians it was wearing.

This past winter my 1990 765 Turbo was the only non-truck/SUV to make it to my work through about a foot of snow. I've had Yokohamas, Generals, and Nexens (all all-season) and all fared well and never let me get stuck. The Yokohamas were the best, but one had a wear issue due to misalignment at the installer so they gave me the Generals which were alleged to offer a further 20K miles of tread life, though during the winter a pothole ate both on the passenger side (sidewall bubbles), hence the Nexens. Tires make so much of a difference, such that it makes AWD almost frivolous.

1: Well, especially with good all-season or winter tires. My best have been with Yokohama and Bridgestone, and I won't even consider Michelins, but to each their own.

2: Good, depending on previous owner, the new owner, and the mechanic. If one of these was/is a bum, the case night be, too.

3: Average if you go to a good shop, above average at the dealership. Low if you do most or all the work yourself. Look at the various online Volvo communities, the there might be a local group with invaluable resources close by.

4: They're great! I'm on my second, my sister-in-law just got a new S60 which she adores. They're generally well-built, safe, less fussy than their English, German, French, and Italian completion, have character, and have a fun "underdog" quality to them. I don't like that the newer cars have the gas tank doors on the wrong (non-driver) side of the vehicle, but that isn't a concern for many

Had a 1983 240DL b23f aw70, recently sold it to a friend to purchase a 1984 Rabbit 2.0 ABA, ACH trans swap. Might pick up an 122S next year, not sure yet.
