Which one and why?
![]() 07/18/2014 at 14:57 |

I'm probably biased as a 135is driver, but I'd take the 1M.
The GT500 is way too heavy, and I prefer my Porsches to be rwd.

#2 cuz V8 'merica. more so just personal desire. then #1 and #3 in 3rd

Any choice is acceptable as long as it's not the Targa 4S.
Anyone who buys a 996 or 997 Targa needs their head examined.
![]() 07/18/2014 at 14:57 |

The Mustang. I'd get so laid
![]() 07/18/2014 at 14:57 |

GT500 - straight line fast. Cheapest to fix and a huge aftermarket.
2nd choice is the 911 because fast/classy
![]() 07/18/2014 at 14:59 |
|
It's also 997.1!
Run far away!!
1M all the way!! It'll never lose value ever.
![]() 07/18/2014 at 14:59 |

I choose the M1.
Damn it wrong car. All right Ill take the Porsche because Porsche
edit: scratch that I'll take the 1M because the inevitable repair bills on that Porsche would take a lot of the fun out of the car
![]() 07/18/2014 at 14:59 |
|
To add to the insult it's not a proper Targa. That's just a 911 with a big sunroof.
This is a proper Targa:
![]() 07/18/2014 at 14:59 |

I'm feeling completely impulsive right now, so I'm going to say Porsche. Porsche! Get the Porsche! Why are you sitting there reading this?! Go!
![]() 07/18/2014 at 14:59 |

The practical part of my brain says Mustang for relative easy of maintenance/access to parts.
The emotional part says 911 because flat-6 music!
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:00 |

Probably the Targa 4S, as it's still useful during normal driving and should hold value pretty well. The 1M is going to be a rare enthusiast's car that everyone advertises for insane prices but no one buys because of the insane prices. The Mustang is just a Ford with Shelby badges. The last real Shelby was made before 1970. le sigh .
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:01 |

1M is the best choice by far. It's the only choice that will actually increase in value (if driven lightly and properly taken care of).
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:04 |

1M
While I'd love me some Porsche curves, and the Targa 4S is certainly about the perfect all-weather sportscar, the 1M is just about perfect in my mind and I don't care for red cars.
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:05 |

I agree.
I'd go bimmer 1st, Mustang second, and no third.
The 997.1 is supposed to be reliable as long as you keep driving it. I guess the IMS issue is only likely if the car is a garage queen. I can't understand why from a technical perspective. But I read that on the Internet. And everything you read on the Internet is true, right?
I just don't get the point of these Targas. They don't look cool like the classic Targa or the 991 Targa. They're heavier than the coupe. And they don't have as much open air as a true targa or a cabrio. It seems like the worst 997 you can get.
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:08 |
|
Seriously though. So pointless. The new Targas are drop dead sexy though. We saw one at the dealer, they even demonstrated the top mechanism. So cool.
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:11 |
|
Yeah the new ones look cool and give you the open air feeling. They're heavy, but at least they have looks and function. The 997 Targa is just like "yo dawg, I heard you like sunroofs so I put a sunroof in your sunroof"
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:12 |

Porsche Because Targa.
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:14 |

1M in a heart beat. rare-ish, well built, fast, small and easy to park. no brainer
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:14 |
|
Don't forget that that is the track pack GT500..
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:15 |
|
I know the 1M is rare and all that, but good gawd it's so frumpy looking. Only a subset of car guys will even know what it is, everyone else will see a cheap BMW or a boy racer, or a boy racer in a cheap BMW. For much less money you could get a V8 e92 m3, or for similar money you could get an extremely new example of one. Hell, for $60k you could squeeze into a brand new M4.
The Targa is a great car. I wouldn't personally choose a Targa 4S, but a 911 would be a great choice. Again for the money, I would try to find the lowest mile 997 Turbo I could.
If you're even considering a GT500, I think you should probably get the GT500.
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:16 |

The question is not of what other cars that you could get for the money, it's of these 3, which one.
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:17 |
|
THEN YOU FORCE MY HAND... 1M, because I could sell it for the most money.
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:24 |
|
GT500, easily.
1M - oh look, you paid a lot for a car that's a little better than a 135is.
Porsche... just... no. It has the turbo wheels, but I wonder how much extra those cost. Also you will always worry about babying it.
GT500: because much cheaper to fix, look at those wheels, listen to the rumble, and have fun smoking the porsche and 1M. (seriously, it's 0-60 time is faster than both)
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:27 |
|
It's also the track pack, so it would be faster around any track.
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:27 |

Targa, I think it's beautiful, plenty sporty and kind of practical. To me it feels like it's in a different' class than the other two.
Why not the others?
I really think the 1 series is ugly from certain angles. photo 1 is a great example something about the height of the hood/beltline with respect to the overall length. or maybe its the curve on the beltline with the slab sides and the curves of the fender flares. U.G.L.Y.
I love mustangs, but when you compare them to the targa they just stupid cars it is a 30 thousand dollar car it does not make sense to me as a 60 thousand dollar car.
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:33 |

OMG PERFECT DESCRIPTION FOR A 997 TARGA
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:39 |

1M, 911, Mustang.
![]() 07/18/2014 at 15:49 |
|
Well there ya go!
![]() 07/18/2014 at 16:02 |
|
1M if you plan on keeping it for awhile because they are rumored to only increase in value like the E30 M. 911 if you wan the best all around sports car. Don't get me wrong the GT500 is one hell of a car but I would take the 911 over the Mustang hands down everyday.
![]() 07/18/2014 at 16:07 |

None of them, here are the right ones to choose
Beachboys, Apple pie and 1967 Mustang because Murica!
![]() 07/18/2014 at 16:10 |

That's not an answer and you can't go around making up your own rules, you anarchist!
![]() 07/18/2014 at 16:15 |
|
1M because RWD and I don't like american cars
![]() 07/18/2014 at 16:29 |
|
1M....probably the best all arounder and will hold its value or appreciate the most.
![]() 07/18/2014 at 16:43 |
|
Ha Ha, I have a thing for rules...
![]() 07/18/2014 at 21:21 |
|
If you don't plan on driving it?
The 1M. It is a fun car, but not worth its price. It is a collector's item.
Otherwise, you need to decide between the GT500 and the 4S based on your driving style and desires.
![]() 07/20/2014 at 21:16 |

Technically these fake Targas started with the 993, but the 993 gets a stay of execution for being the last of the air-cooled breed.
![]() 07/20/2014 at 21:19 |
|
I thought of that too after posting my comment.
But I didn't say anything about it for the same reason you brought up - the 993 gets brownie points for being the last air cooled 911. So I didn't want to say anything bad about it :)
Speaking of which do you think the less desirable 993s will ever appreciate? The good ones are already expensive. But we could buy Tiptronic Cabs for pretty cheap. I wonder how much a manual swap would be...
![]() 07/20/2014 at 21:24 |
|
Well I actually don't trade Porsches... but the manual swap I would have reserves about that. Would be an easy VIN run to see if the transmission got swapped and would hit on the value.
![]() 07/20/2014 at 21:26 |

Very true, good point.
God the air cooled 911s are going nuts right now.
Look at the total crack pipe price on this listing:

I'm looking at this line:
7/16/2014 Update: This 1973 Porsche 911S has now been restored and will be auctioned next month here at Gooding & Co . Their estimate is $275k-$350k.
Why on earth would someone not spend the same money on a Singer 911, which starts at the same price?
![]() 07/20/2014 at 22:04 |

I have no idea!!
I don't think the car will sell for anywhere near that. But even if it sold for half that would be insane!
