This is the PreVue concept. An idea of what the second generation Vue would look like.

A three-door CUV with good ground clearance, side pipes, and a very attractive interior.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Compare that to the production Vue.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

While the Vue is an attractive car in production form, it's a bit of a let-down compared to the concept. The influences are definitely there, but I wish there was more similar to the concept.

Do you have any production cars that were a bit of a let-down compared to their concept.

Subaru's production versions have been a huge letdown from their concepts lately. Especially the WRX.

TThis generation Legacy is still a million times better looking than the old one. though.

Alfa Romeo Brera. The transition from concept to production reality wasn't really all that bad in terms of what the car looked like, but it was an unmitigated disaster in terms of underpinnings. Gone was the Maserati-derived V8 driving the rear wheels, in its place were a disappointing array of weedy Opel-derived petrol engines (not a Busso engine in sight) and (shudder) a diesel engine driving the front wheels. Driving one was an entirely indifferent experience.

One of the problems with the Charger, for me, as always been the name. It never should've been applied to a four door... and folks at Chrysler know this.

I had a chance to chat with Ralph Gilles awhile back, and I brought up the naming of the Charger. He sighed, paused, and then said (paraphrasing from memory) "We (the design team) were given an order... make a sporty sedan. We did just that, and hit the necessary marks to make it a Dodge product. It then went to Marketing, where they decided to apply the name Charger. Down in Design, we were freaked and asked to make a handful of changes so that the name could somewhat relate to the car."

Most of what you see in the second-generation Charger (modern Charger) relates far more closely to the style of the original car. Still, I would've loved to see either a new name devised or a return to a classic name that made a bit more sense. Coronet might be boring, but it fits the car far better than Charger.

I will admit though, that I do enjoy the latest car. The interior is great, the engine is a joy, and the styling is sporty enough to match the performance. Additionally, if you like good factory audio systems, the Harman unit is one of the cleanest I've heard.

Strangely, I am a huge fan of the Ford Five Hundred; it was actually a good car. They made the interior and powertrain significantly better when they re-named it the Taurus at the end of its production life, but God did they fuck up the aesthetics. If I could get the the original Five Hundred body with the interior and powertrain updates of the Taurus, I'd be a happy camper.

Or I'd just go with a 2010 Taurus SHO.

To me it looks like they were 90% done with the next Dodge Intrepid and then they were like "Hey! lets put at big engine in it and call it a Charger! that will sell well!" And thats how the "Charger" was born. The only thing on this car that looks anything remotely like a charger is the rear hip line. Everything else screams low rent Intrepid. From the ugly crosshair grille to the taillights. Only recently have they made it look halfway decent giving it a charger rear end and side, though the front is still atrocious.

The reason the vue sucked in production was because it had to be squished into the exact form factor of, and share most of the parts with, a Chevrolet Equinox. I don't even understand why they'd make a concept if they were just going to rebadge a chev at the end of the day.

If Subaru brought the LGT back or the Levorg here the WRX can be all the econobox it wants!
