So I tried to jack my car up on what I thought was the pretty sturdy frame rail, and then it did this.

Bad? How do I fix it?

Kinja'd!!!

Those aren't holes, but just spot where the weatherproofing stuff got jacked up. The rear passenger floor is also elevated slightly. Can this be fixed? Is it worth the cost?

unibody damage. No fix. Your seat might be a little crooked now.

I believe it can be pulled but it may not be worth the money if there are no holes.

yikes, thats not good. was that the pinch seam? or was it flat before you started jacking there?

Sorry, but that's not realisitcally or economically fixable.

You can pull your seat, then put a block of wood where the floor is elevated and beat it with a hammer to push it back into shape.

no, it's supposed to be dead flat going by the other side

Is it likely to kill me, or can I leave it be?

Torch then dry ice may get it to pop back if the metal is thin enough...but usually that's permanent. Lots of cars out there with that damage though, you are not alone.

Will it kill me or is it just "Out of spec" and never perfect again

Lots of RUNNING cars, or lots of cars parked in a scrap yard?

Shouldn't kill you. I doubt it compromised the integreity of the car if it was that weak in the first place.

It will just be out-of-spec.

In all seriousness, unibody frame damage cannot be feasibly fixed. You're lucky that you got away with just a pinch. It will be a little less strong in a crash, but it should drive fine. don't do anything.

Don't feel bad ... we've all made mistakes like this. Look on the bright side, you'll never attempt to lift a car again without looking up the jacking points ;)

Um, did you put the jack stand parallel to the rail? I've always done them perpendicular, like such:

As others have said, you can try to push it out from the inside. But if it doesn't work easily I'd let it be as this is only cosmetic. Don't know about your climate, but over here I'd get a rattle can of underbody coating and apply generously to prevent rust. As the rust proofing on the inside of that "tube" (what really is that what we are looking at here?) might be compromised and there is a whole next to the spot anyway you could spray some wax or any other rust proofing into there as well. Just for peace of mind.

What car is that, and which part are we looking at, front or rear?

Edit: I did something similar to my first 626 in the late 90s. WITH THE JACK THAT CAME WITH THE CAR! I now understand why my dad always used a little block of wood to distribute the pressure over a slightly larger area. Didn't do anything to fix it though, and it was fine.

I might just try to hammer it out from the rear passenger footwell.

well, I wouldn't pretend it never happened... You do want to remember to never jack there again. ;)

This is the main, errr, seam thing that runs from the front to the back. There's another one on the other side of the car. You're looking right under the rear seat footwell on the passenger side, the wheel is about 16-18 inches to the left of the gash.

626 huh? This was a 2005 Mazda 6 haha.

My climate is "Hot and dry AF, but rainy in the winter". I'll apply some kind of sealant I'm sure. I was thinking bedliner?

I found somewhere else to put the stands, that's from the jack itself.

Wow Boss. Just Wow. Look just drive it, unless you're going to Concourse this SC400.

Reaction: OMFG Dude! RTFM! This isn't a GM B-Body Old's Delta 88 with a ladder frame!

Info:The square channels in Monocoque Bodies don't have "frame rails". This thing you jacked has tensile strength for cargo-load and crashes and stuff. There is zero lateral load rating on Monocoque channels. The proper jack points are in your users manual (and trunk sticker). On Monocoque's, it's usually at the weld seams 6" inboard of the wheel in question (and those points are only rated for like 10 jacks, use ramps for Concourse Classics). IT IS NEVER OKAY TO JACK A MONOCOQUE CHASSIS' CHANNELS. Only 4 jack points for scissors jacks; and the shops jack up with giant pads now.

Oh, yeah I see that in your post now. I guess my mind went to the stands because I've only ever tried to put stands under a frame rail, not jack the car up by the rail. :/
