A few weeks ago, Collin pleaded with the internet to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . It was good, it was passionate, it struck a chord with all auto enthusiasts out there, but it was also hugely lacking in how to actually increase the speed limits. Come on, Collin, you know better!

How to increase them? Stop electing control freaks, Nanny Statists, and eco types. Replace your local "progressive" with a libertarian, rinse and repeat.

The best argument to raising limits boils down to time. What's your time worth?
I always have this article by Prof. Steven Dutch, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on hand. It talks about why people don't ride mass transit (buses, trains, etc), but there are good points that are also applicable to cars in general. (For example, why do we all want to take the freeway rather than back roads? Because transportation costs less the faster you go (i.e. the marginal time cost goes down))

Sorry, but the last thing we need are more fees and tolls.
That said, I would like the US to make it harder to get a driver's license (more education and time behind the wheel required). It's the most dangerous activity most of us partake in each day; the preparation required should reflect that.

How to change speed limits in two easy steps:
1. Get a sharpie marker or some black paint
2. Put a one in front of the existing numbers
If you want to do it right, you write a simple algorithm to determine the maximum safe speed then base the limit off that plus your safety factor.
If you want to do it the fun way you take a Miata, swap the tires for donut spares, and see how fast you can go around there bends while keeping in your lane.

Thanks. That would be excellent. Might convince neighboring Louisiana to do the same. Not going to get my hopes up though, but I will dream.
