Rescued from use as a target in the Mojave, Doc should be airworthy sometime this fall.
If we're lucky, Doc and Fifi will both be at AirVenture in the next few years. I'd die a happy man if I were able to see these beauties parked wingtip-to-wingtip.

That's awesome. We saw FiFi last year, and it'll be back this way next month for the Rocky Mountain Air Show. I still wish a B17 would come back.

Miss Marilyn Gay, repainted as Sweet Eloise, has been parked at Dobbins since '94 - all the metal's there, so it might be possible to rebuild. It was stored from 60-94 two other places partly disassembled. I don't know if NAS Atlanta has any interest in further restoration, though the previous one (to display condition) was privately funded.

Got to go on board FIFI several years ago. Really, really cool.

Awesome! I've seen her up close at AirVenture a few times over the last few years, but never inside.

She was making a fuel stop along with a couple of other WWII planes. I have a friend with a plane on the ramp so we got a free tour. The cockpit is so different from other planes with the huge expanse of glass. It feels like you are hanging out in empty sky - even just parked on the ramp.

I just feel so bad for the guys out there that had done all the work, got it taxiing, and then watch it burn to the ground. That is equally as heartbreaking as the plane burning.
