!!! UNKNOWN HEADER TYPE (MULTI-LINE BREAK?) !!!

So there are 2 distinct groups here on Autoblog it seems: first are the car nuts, the knuckle draggers and as of recently, the idiots powering their cars(trucks) with coal. The other seems to be the 'mother Earth' type and technology nerds looking ahead to the future. There is a third and we seem to number so small that really we are insignificant. The realistic, responsible and intelligent ones.

Now that does not mean the other two majority classes aren't intelligent, it just means they sometimes lack the overall foresight and lose the ability to see the big picture while focusing on defending their little piece of the big automotive pie.

So, here is what to do depending on which class of reader you fall into. For 'Red Neck' knuckle draggers: STFU! I've read endlessly how you have first feared the end of the muscle/sports car for the past decade or so and here we are in 2014 with more choice than ever when it comes to good old American muscle and horsepower. The sports car, which you whined endlessly was about the go the way of the dinosaur? That too has more choice than ever when you are willing to put your cash on the table.

Stop bitching and whining about Tesla and electric cars, the 'driver-less' future and what ever new technology might be on the horizon. STFU and enjoy what you have right in front of you right now!

For the tree huger/mother Earth type: STFU! A car like the Challenger Hellcat and all the Ferrari's/Lambo's/Porsches/Pagani's and so on and so on make such small numbers of the total number of cars sold year over year that really they impact CO2 emissions so little they don't matter. A car like this Hellcat will be bought in small numbers by guys in their 50's and driven only on special occasions and weekends.

You are and will get your way, where it counts: in the daily driver and Mon-Fri work horse vehicles that make up the +95% of mileage and fuel consumption. Give the auto enthusiast his/her fantasy cars. The numbers are truly eye opening when you choose to look at them. Muscle/sports cars make up less than 10% of total sales around the world: and yes, I'm being very generous with that 10%, truth is on an average year it's less than 5%.

So stop bitching, whining and complaining when cars like this are announced and sold. Concentrate your efforts and the boring everyday 'econoboxes' and daily work vehicles that make up the overwhelming majority of damaging CO2 emissions. In other words, just STFU and enjoy the strides being made today and look what is just around the corner from your perspective and wish list. For christ sakes, the hottest and most desirable super cars this year are all hybrids!

EDIT : It turns out to be a good choice to have posted/re-posted here on Oppo as it seems AB didn't like my comment and has removed it. It's their site and they have all the right in the world, I'll just comment less and participate less in and on that site.

You don't need that negativity in your life.

you threw out a lot of numbers. Just curious, do you have any sources I could cite when making similar arguments?

Directly from Autonews.com (it is worth getting a membership if you work in or love this stuff)

American car sales, no trucks at all, for first 6 months of 2014 through June:

BMW Z4 1213/ Viper 354/ SLK 2349/ SLS160/ Ferrari 1050/ Mustang 44231/ ChevySS 1662/ Corvette 17744/ Camaro 46672/ Veloster14970/ Genesis(didn't break down coupe only numbers but I through it in) 14046/ F-Type 1737/ Miata 2663/ GTR 560/ 370Z 4114/BRZ 4295/ LFA 12/ FRS 7662/ TT 869/ R8 422/ Lambo 354/ 911 5168/ Boxster 2324/ Cayman 1562/ Lotus 84

Total cars sales for America in that period was 4,020,199. The sports/muscle cars I listed, and yes you could add a few more like BMW M cars or other MB AMG models, total 202,560. Or just a tick over 5%.

Remember this does not account for any truck sales what so ever. So that 5% accounts only for car sales. Total sales for first 6 months in America was 8,168,888 units, putting the number of muscle/sports cars to under 2.5%.

Thanks! Its good to see someone on the internet actually giving legitimate numbers instead of spouting BS.
