So I've been on a kick for wanting a 2nd car and a sporty one/a toy/weekend cruiser/whatever you wanna call it. And I was pretty set on either a 300zx or a Prelude as being the car I'd look for. But then today I saw something that has my attention. And it's not sporty at all. It's a Suzuki. An Aerio sedan. What a rad looking little car that thing is. I'm thinking it'd be a blast to throw one around at a track day and learn to wrench on. I dunno. Maybe I should stick to my original plan. Or maybe I should make irrational decisions and buy an 11 year old Suzuki.
I usually lean towards the latter.

When trying to decide between what makes logical sense, and what impulsively jumps out at you, always choose the latter. If you regret it, you'll be able to say "yeah, I knew better", but if you choose the logical choice and regret it, you'll never be able to admit it.
Probably the worst advice anyone could give, but it's how I reason lol. Which is how I wound up with a total lemon on my second-to-last car, and drove a Sebring for 4 years before that. So take it for what it's worth.

What you think the Suzuki will be:
What it actually will be:
Get a Honda Fit. They are actually good cars and fun and sporty and all that stuff, if you want a little hatch/sedan to throw into corners.

That's how I ended up with a basket case Integra GSR that I bought w/o title in hand and never got one. I never registered it, and traded it for an Accord. But the 6 months I hooned it were a blast, and only actually cost me about 500 bucks.

Skip the Suzuki, go for Honda Fits and Mazda Protege/3 sedans. They'll have your sporty compact sedan/hatchback spirit you're looking for.

I've always liked them for some reason. If it was good enough for Star in a Reasonably Priced car, it's good enough for me lol. Attractive little thing too

Damn, I like those wheels.

not to mention more aftermarket parts available.

This car will have driving characteristics similar to a Chevy Aveo, Suzuki Swift/Geo Metro, or Toyota Yaris. I don't think this is what you're imagining.

prolly will not be a popular idea on Oppo , but maybe consider a C4 Vette ... early ones are cheap , and they are relatively easy to wrench on . or maybe , a SN95 Mustang . they are the red-headed stepchild of the modern 'stangs , and I hear some guy in Texas might sell ya one dirt cheap .

I'm sorry, did somebody say "cheap, simple car that's known for being ridiculously fun to drive"?

Get the ZX or the Prelude. I can't make an argument against either of those - both great cars.

What about a "Top Gear edition" Suzuki SX4? I always sorta liked those and they are hella practical with the big hatch.

I would love one for a DD but it'd be too big for my fun car. If I go for a bigger car, it'd be a Z or a Prelude. I just like the tinyness of the Aerio. I wonder where the used Mazda 2 market will be in a year or so though.

The only problem, and this is me being narrowminded here, is that those aren't Japanese. I'm stickin' to my JDM gosh dangit, now get off my zen garden.

I like these. Like a lot. This is something that I would consider as a replacement daily driver for the Cube honestly.

Finding the right one in NJ, which seems to be the ricer capital, would be nearly impossible. A kid at my job is slowly restoring an AW11, it's beat to hell and had primered bumpers/hood and hood pins because the latch rusted away. And yet that's the cleanest one I've seen around here. IF I did see one, there'd be a big fat maybe with a wad of cash being withdrawn from the bank.

To be fair, I don't know what I'm imagining with a Suzuki. I know they're kinda junk BUT LOOK HOW COOL THEY ARE. They're as close to a kei car as I can legally get here in America.
