I don't understand why it failed so hard. I think it was a awesome concept.

Source: My fellow volunteer at a church thing is in charge of buying F-35B and F-35C for the ********* Air Force (somewhere in Europe) and flying them. And he is a on the dev team for the L-II.
As I understand it, they didn't follow the K. I. S. S. rule as such, it's too complicated to be useful.

It's like an automatic E36 M3 convertible that's been lifted and outfitted with big wheels and tires for going offroad.

Awesome concept, but way too expensive for not excelling in any particular area. Had it cost a fraction of the price, it would be amazing, but I think the general idea is that for the cost, it leaves holes in the budget for other things.

Also, they are retrofitting parked Viking S-3s, limited numbers of F-15s and C-130s to fufill the electronic warfare roles that the NAVY and Air Force need the F-35 to do...yesterday.

It hasn't failed yet. There's still a ways to go before we declare it a failure. It's had significant teething problems, but most new systems do. It's getting the press because it's so damned expensive.

If it does fail I hope it depreciates hard like a 10 year old AMG so I can buy one for $15K

OOOOOH I see it tried to do everything at once but fell flat on it's face when it attempted to climb a grassy knoll.
