This past weekend I had an opportunity to visit the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC. The museum is located at what was once Southern Railroad's largest steam locomotive repair facility on the east coast. While they feature many forms of transportation, being an old rail repair facility means there is a lot of trains. The site features a working shop where trains are repaired at a Round House that is accessed by a still functioning turntable. It's 57 acres of awesome and below are just some of the pictures I captured during my excursion.
You can learn more about the NC Transportation Museum and it's history !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
1931 Ford Model A Town Sedan.
1914 Ford Model T.
1935 Ford Highway Patrol car.
Studebaker.
Edsel.
One of the early diesel locomotives.
Early Piedmont Airlines flight simulator.
Locomotive in for restoration. The shop was in full motion as the volunteers actively worked on this locomotive.
This engine/propeller was manufactured by the "Chevrolet Motor Company."
This train takes a tour of the grounds.
This is a 1918 Rouch & Lang Model BX-7 Brougham. It was built as an electric vehicle with a maximum speed of 25 mph.
1922 Buick Touring Car. 4 cylinder motor that sold for $975 when new.
Edsel from the side. I couldn't get a better shot. The lines are beautiful. I have a soft spot for these.
Lincoln Continental.
These pictures really do not do it justice. Both the building and the locomotives inside are huge.
Inside the Round House.
Back Shop. It's 2 football fields long and 3.5 stories high. It's truly massive. All the windows and the roof had to be replaced as well as some of the masonry in order to restore the building.
I posted a video of the Turntable in action on YouTube. Link below.

I think I may have been taken here at like age 8. I've considered that to be the best Edsel ('59 Ranger) for some time as it's not too busy on the nose - it makes the horse collar work.
I once saw an H-series Lincoln like that out driving in Atlanta on surface roads - had to do a double-take. Gorgeous cars, but you almost never see them.
That '35 Ford is flat out classy.

Couldn't agree more about the Edsel. Still, I feel like they were before their time.

It was really awesome. I was like a little kid in a candy store. It was 6 bucks to get in. Not bad at all.
