After reading the Road & Track article on super car maintenance I wondered what is the most expensive / cheap maintenance car?

My guess/opinion is probably a Corvette or a Viper because you could maintain them with parts from your local auto store.

Some of the high super car costs:

McLaren F1 Oil Change - $8000

Ferrari Enzo Oil Change - $6000

Oh and for those thinking about a GT-R..........Nissan GT-R Brake Job - $8000

What is your guess?

ZR1 would be my guess.

Nah, ZR1's engine, supercharger, cooling, and oil are all pretty much bespoke. Most of the body panels aren't the same as other corvettes either.

Easy, Lexus LFA. Oil change is about $150

Interesting question! Everyone focuses on the worst supercars to own. We should also look at the best ones to own.

The American supercars are probably the most affordable to maintain.

When it comes to the exotics the stick shift Gallardo is supposed to be one of the better ones because it's reliable. You have to factor repair costs into the running costs of exotics too since you're rarely lucky enough to only have to pay for maintenance once the warranty is up to keep it on the road....

$92,000 car that has maintenance basically like that of a $20,000 Chevy truck.

Yes, but when you have to change the clutch its an engine out job. I was watching a Barrett Jackson auction and they estimated $10k.

Very good point. never would've thought of this.

NA1 NSX, I remember seeing either a Motor Trend or Road & Track article comparing used performance cars including the C5 Z06 and NSX, mentioning how the NSX continued old-Honda's trend of reliability and affordability to maintain it...minus the expensive titanium connecting rods but that's only a problem if you're dim enough to boost it and expect the warranty to stay intact.

Lexus LS?

Yeah the maintenance is not cheap... Just saying that at least with that car you'll have a better chance of not needing to fix a lot of things like you might on a Ferrari or other exotic.

What's worse than the clutch job on the stick shift car is the clutch job on the E Gear car because the clutch does't last as long!

My vote goes for an air cooled 911. Vette seems obvious but at the end of the day air cooled 911s really are just fancy beetles.

$250,000+

LS3 or LS7

Manual Trans

Standard Brakes

Corvette parts bin pieces

ECU from a Corvette so engine diagnostics can be done at a Chevy Dealership. Just don't crash one.

No.

Small things are cheap. You need a new front bumper? Psh.

A front bumper is not maintenance related.

I've heard its about $3500 and you dont have to pull the engine. There is a guy on jalopnik that has one and does all the maintenance himself, in his own garage. I hope he chimes in.

Z06 is better choice, all my parts are available at NAPA, including brakes.

Was totally going to go this route - $80k Toyota - not even Lexus - that has Toyota reliability. But it's not really a car.

I know it's not a super car by any means, but I've owned my '04 GTO for just over 4 years and 54k miles now. The only non-maintenance work I've done to it was replace a throttle position sensor and an oil pressure switch. By this, I'd assume Corvettes would be pretty cost effective.

BMW M4 while under warranty —> Maintenance cost = $0 (for USDM)

I know it's not a supercar. But fully optioned is like 80k.
