Thank you everyone who commented and made suggestions in my previous post.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I wanted to let you know that thanks to a decent sale and the convenience of being able to pick it up today, I purchased a Nikon D3200 from Target of all places. It was the only camera that caught my attention that I was able to actually get my hands on.

I know I was looking for a mirrorless camera, and there will certainly be times I wish I had a smaller item to carry around. But then I realized I have a kid (and one on the way) so we'll have a stroller to put the camera bag in if I need to.

Once again thank you everyone. Your information was invaluable and now I can try my hand at amateur photography.

Next purchase: a Nikon 35/1.8 . People will tell you to get a 50mm as your first prime, but on an APS-C sensor it's a short telephoto. A 35mm is more "normal" field of view. That was my go-to lens when I had an APS-C DSLR, and now that I shoot mirrorless I use a similar lens.

Nikon yeck, j/k. I'm more into video than photography so that's the only reason I lean more to Canon.

Thanks for the info! I was looking into buying a 50mm 1.8 but I'll look into the 35mm 1.8 instead. Unfortunately, it may be harder to find a used 35mm vs 50mm.

I had Pentax DSLRs, and I had a 35/2 and a 50/1.4. The 50 I used mostly for portraits or other things where I wanted that shallow depth of field, or just the particular look the 50 gives and I had room to move back a few steps. The 35 was by far my most used lens.

The Nikon 35/1.8 G is a pretty common lens, it should be readily available on the used market. Just check forums, ebay, or KEH. I was actually surprised but KEH doesn't have one in stock right now. Really the best buy-it-now price I saw on ebay waas $ 176.88 for a refurb . So I'd check the actual auctions (but not bid more than like $170), and the forums.

I know that feels like a lot since you just got your body (and maybe a kit zoom) for cheap at Target. But you'll soon find out that the most expensive part of having a camera that uses multiple lenses, is those multiple lenses.
