After church service, I had to skedaddle and drive 20 some miles and 30 some minutes to attend the end of another church service two towns over (there was free food involved, don't question it). On the way, I saw this guy on the back roads. Thankfully, since I've developed awesome phone-pic-taking skills as of late, I took a pic without even looking at the screen. So...what is it? I'm drawing a blank...

Looks like a scene out of Bonnie and Clyde.

Hahaha, it sounds odd, I know. The 2nd service was my old church. A new church started a few towns over, and the entirety of its staff consists of the pastor and his wife. I went the first day of service to support them, quickly discovered issues with the sound system. It told him I'd help him out from now on because I have experience running a sound board in the church I grew up with. And possibly in the future, I can help do worship since I play bass and my wife is a beginner guitarist. Basically what the pastor can't do or doesn't know, I can do or now.
The other service had some friends I talked to before switching churches. I missed them, so my family and I traveled out there to see them. Of course, most of them left by the time I got there, but I made some new friends and hung out with my grandparents, so it was worth it. Plus, it was a Nazarene potluck, the food is always good then.

It's too long for most Fords of that year - with that fender line it may be a '31 Chevy. Def. not a Plymouth.

I was thinking 'gangster', but I like your idea better.

looks like a early Chevy, could be a mopar of some kind. I do know its not a ford for a fact. Hard to see but were there 4 flaps on the hood sides?

No hood-side flaps, or at least not big ones - that excludes '32 on Chevy. I checked the front contour of the fender against mopars of 30-32 and didn't seem to be getting any matches - ditto for Hupmobile and Buick. Pretty sure it's a '31 Chevy.

Adding to what I just said, I checked Marmon, but it doesn't look big enough and I don't think there are any Marmons with wire wheels. Not an Olds, either.

Well, they certainly were gangsters in the original sense of the word. That word has been co-opted by hip hop culture to mean something different.

I think its earlier than 31. The visor is the main think I'm looking at and I would its closer to a little earlier Chevy. Like 28-29 but the length of the body looks off. From pics I've looked at this car had a longer rear window behind the rear door than a Chevy and the visor is still a little different

I didn't see any. I saw the side of the car and thats it. I would normally look, but I was on a dirt road, and there was foliage on either side. And this is why deer can be annoying....

From what you guys suggest, I did a little research...is it a '31 Chevy 4 Door Sedan ? It looks close....

It matches on *almost* all points, but the key here is "almost". Teh top trim line and the visor over the windshield are not a match. I found something that might be - '30 Lincoln. Not 100% sure yet.

I may have been too quick to rule out Plymouth:
The three features that strike me as the biggest reason this may be it is that the trim on the top roof edge is the same (full-length, with drop at end), the fenders have a forward cant on the front edge (but not too sharp), and the window proportions are right. Other reasons it's likely are the hub size, four door models having adjacent latches, the fact that it has a luggage shelf, the frame being farther back from the front wheels than most, and increased likelihood (Plymouths were very, very common).

I ruled out Plymouth too soon - found some very close matches ~'28.

I think its Plymouth looking at the pics you posted. Looks street rodded so the body could be a little tweaked.

The clincher for me was proportions on a standard model, combined with that over-the-top trim piece with the dipped end.
All that combined with the fender lines, fender front edge, luggage shelf, and minimal grill from the side to make me pretty sure this is it.

I'm so used to being around hot rods that I never look at fenders or radiator/grille shells. I focus on the visors and belt line beads. That's really the big keys in determining make since from 20 feet they all look the same

It's like a dream come true for me. I live in a house on a campground, which is the same grounds I camped in an RV growing up. I also met my wife here on the grounds, and years later, proposed to her here. Plus, since the grounds are private...technically no fishing license is needed, :D

I am about a year away from moving back to Illinois to finish school. I am already looking for houses in the country but reasonably close to the University of Illinois. I can't wait I'm so excited for solitude, quiet and no neighbors for a mile or more.

Its funny, I grew up in Warren, MI , in the suburbs (my family spent near every summer at the grounds I'm at now). My wife grew up in the country, where her parents own 40 acres, which is a lot. She hates the suburbs, and I don't mind it...but I do prefer where I am now. There's something very manly and relieving, about splitting wood for a fire.... :).
And I'm glad you going to the country! Its so fun!
