It went all wonky yesterday when she was at Trader Joes. It wouldn't disable so she couldn't drive anywhere. Had to get it towed to the Subie dealership for fixing.
How much do they charge to simply disable it? $250. And I could have done it for free in less than 10 minutes. What a rip off.

Couldn't you just pull the fuse that tells it to do that?

was it just a fuse?
also... does your sister like comfortable shoes #TiredStereoTypes

That sucks. My Abarth lets me disable it myself. I hated it on my WRX. I always thought something was wrong when it kicked in until I remembered the car had it.

Dealer service depts must salivate when they see a car come in on a flatbed.

LIES!
(okay yes we do, 2009-2013 Mazda6 just pulled in on a flatbed. All we see is $$$$)

Next time Google it for a quick fix? $250 seems steep, what was all involved? (diagnosis, repair time, parts, etc)

i remember doing that, it's in a tight spot but was super easy to fix. much better. can they even do that? it's technically disabling part of the braking system. i think they bought 250 worth of massive liability

its mechanical, but its pretty easy to disable.

Ya they offered to either disable it or replace the system. I told my sister that since it was already there and work had began to just disable it to save money. It's tied into the braking system but won't screw it up if disabled.

As Hammerhead said, it's just a cable. I thought it was at first until I read up on how to disable it.

She told the dealership to just start work on it before she told me what the problem was. They would probably have just charged $100 for diagnoses then I could have disabled it and driven it home from the stealership myself.

No ill will towards your sister and I hope she gets her car back soon, but..... This is my reaction whenever added complexity like that breaks and it disables the whole fucking car.
I may be alone on this one, but we're 3-4 years deep into the SUPRE-FANTASTIC-GADGET-FEATURE era, and I can only see more of this coming.

It is actually just a mechanical system. I thought it was a fuse at first, but you simply unbolt some nuts from a cable to loosen it and the hill assist is magically disabled.

it really is an intrusive system. I hate driving her car because the hill assist even kicks in when you're backing up on a flat surface. It's awful .

its true it wont...but it COULD, seems like a huge risk to take as a dealership

Stealerships charging a lot for easy stuff.

I completely agree. It's an unnecessary feature and after reading up on it a bit, it's known to go wrong and screw up some peoples cars.

Yep, they just made the easiest $250 ever.
