Kinja'd!!!

So the Cruisin' US12 event in Wayne, MI was this weekend and the Montego was out makin' some noise!

I will warn you that it's a Montego Picture heavy post.

For those who don't know, I am the (overly) Proud Owner of a 1968 Mercury Montego MX Cyclone Package with a 302 V8. It's upgrades include an Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake and a 4 barrel Holley Carb with true dual Super 44 Flowmasters.

So the event does a nice little loop through downtown Wayne and it's really set up perfect with nice turn arounds at each end, there were a bunch of promotions at local business/bars and it was a great time.

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=27…

If the video embed above actually works my car rumbles by at about 36 seconds!

Here's some pics of the Montego, and then I blatantly admit to snagging this pics off of the US12 Facebook page so if anyone wants them remove I will oblige. In the Montego is my brother in law who was PSYCHED to get a chance to drive a Muscle car a month before he gets a real license (permit). I let him do a quick loop through the cruise in it, man he's obsessed now. My wife drove it for the first time (despite owning it 3 years now) and had a blast, I think my budget might go up!

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Now for some other people's cars/photos (looks like Photocredit goes to VISUALSOUL via Cruisin' US12's Facebook page):

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

And finally, my son went crazy for the cars going by! (he's 1.5 years old, and obsessed with cars already). He said "COOL CAR!" probably a 1000 times on Saturday!

Kinja'd!!!

Just found this pic on the facebook page, someone had some fun (was not me!):

Nice pics! I'm glad you had a blast too. Since I'm finding out how many car shows are around, I'm gonna make it a goal to attend a couple of them. Also, I didn't know you had a little too! My girl is the same age, :).

I was waiting for your post on this one, I hope the Lansing trip was good, cause you missed a cool event haha!

I sure do, he's absolutely obsessed with cars, which is awesome.

You said you're out in howell?

There's a cool event on August 23rd down in Wayne also. It's called Family Fun Fest. It's at a local church (not even mine haha), but it's a big car show, and everything is free. yes, FREE. Free food, free petting zoo for the kids. FREE.

Yes there may be some long lines, but it's all free. There is also the Hines Drive Car Cruise that day as well. So I've seen quite a few people go to the car show/free event in Wayne then head to Hines Drive to cruise.

I'll let you know if I'm going to that one (I recommend it either way) because we close on our new house the week before that so may be kind of hectic with moving/unpacking.

Ha, if cars are involved, I'm totally missing out. My daughter just says 'ma ma ma ma ma', 'mao' (referring to the cat and dog), and now 'oom' (like vroom). And yep, I'm in Howell.

If all goes according to plan, I'll be out in Birmingham next Saturday to go to that Car's and Coffee show. I told my wife before she could make other plans, plus since my mom is flying in from FL, free baby-sitter! My wife might come to the C&C too, but she still needs some convincing....

I'll keep the Family Fun Fest (F^3) in mind as well! Is there a website for it?

O man, my kid has a crazy vocabulary. You can tell if he likes a car or not as to whether he says "CAR" or "COOL CAR", cool car being the better of the two haha.

As for Family Fest (apparently "Fun" isn't in there....) F^2 this is the best I can do for website, it's an article form our local paper: http://www.thewaynedispatch.com/family-fest-20…

Gotta love having the free babysitter in town, mine comes in from SC lol.

I can't wait til my girl starts talking like that. Its a personal goal to make her say our dog's name before 'mom' (I enjoy messing with my wife).

And F^3 is already in my head, it's too late. Plus, how would people know the Family Fest is 'fun' if Fun isn't in the name? lol

I'm lucky my mom is coming, because since she doesn't see her grand kid much, its like "sure, you can borrow her. I don't mind".

Hahahaha that's awesome. Ours refers to the dog simply as "dog"...and I think he said it before mom/mama/mommy. He definitely said Dada before Mama so I win that one!

F^3 it is, you make a strong point.

Yeah I'm in the exact same position with my parents. They are just off of hilton head in SC, so pretty much as far down as you can go in SC.

Well, we may be able to work a deal out on a "family" car event send the wives off with the kids while we gawk at cars...

I stand corrected, my wife told me that our girl says 'mama', 'dada', 'mao' [meow], 'bark', 'ba' [bottle], 'oom' [vroom]; but I have yet to hear all of them. Its all conjecture anyways... :)

Ha, my wife is like a shadow when she's around new people. I have had people ask me "does she speak" on more than one occasion. She's working on it....gradually...lol.

07/15/2014 at 10:22

Kinja'd!!!0

bad one.

appraisals suck balls. I don't understand why they even exist in my range. I understand keeping people from laundering money by paying 100k over what a house is worth, but they probably just nuked my whole deal by appraising my current home 8k under our accepted offer. If the market doesn't support that price, why the hell is someone OFFERING that price.

Kinja'd!!! zeontestpilot > MontegoMan562 is a Capri RS Owner
07/15/2014 at 10:40

Kinja'd!!!0

Sorry to hear that. The home market I think is a bit scary. You can get a home cheap, but then do repairs to 'update' it. Or you can pay way more than you want to, and get a house with everything updated already.

My wife and I are looking at buying a home as well, as we're currently renting a house and it wasn't built for winter use...its a summer cottage. It would be ok, but landlords' insurance says we can't use a wood-burning stove. So now we're scrambling looking at houses in the area....

Kinja'd!!! MontegoMan562 is a Capri RS Owner > zeontestpilot
07/15/2014 at 10:56

Kinja'd!!!0

ugh. My house that the deal my have just crashed on would be too far away for you down here in Wayne. It's a great house, we just want a bit bigger. If it weren't for the buyers needing so much help on closing costs/down payment it would be fine at 90. But they want over 5k in seller concessions.

Kinja'd!!! zeontestpilot > MontegoMan562 is a Capri RS Owner
07/15/2014 at 11:09

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah, it would be too far. Right now I'm commuting 40 minutes (one-way) to Lansing from my current house (oh yeah, I said 'go msu' for ya). I love the area, so I'm trying to stay in Howell/Fowlerville/Cohoctah area.

If I may ask, what is seller concessions?

Kinja'd!!! MontegoMan562 is a Capri RS Owner > zeontestpilot
07/15/2014 at 11:17

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah I'm doing almost 60 minutes total, mainly because I have to detour to drop off/pickup the baby at daycare.

Seller concessions is asking the seller to pay part or all of your downpayment and/or closing costs when purchasing the home.

The seller (me in this case) doesn't necessarily write a check to the buyer...they just don't get everything from the sale. So for example. if the home sale was for 100,000 and a buyer asked for 10% concessions (that's way more than normal, max is typically 5-6%, this is just easier math lol) that would mean while the buyer's mortgage is 100,000, the seller only receives 90,000 of it. And the Buyer can use that 10,000 to apply to their down payment, etc.

Thanks for the GO MSU for me! I hope that real estate lingo made sense lol, ask again if I wasn't clear.

Kinja'd!!! zeontestpilot > MontegoMan562 is a Capri RS Owner
07/15/2014 at 11:29

Kinja'd!!!0

It makes sense I believe, but I don't understand it's purpose. It seems to just make the seller get less for their house, which is unfair to the seller.

The house I'm looking at is a land by contract setup, which is a different ball field I think.

Kinja'd!!! MontegoMan562 is a Capri RS Owner > zeontestpilot
07/15/2014 at 11:51

Kinja'd!!!0

definitely a different ball field.

yea it IS unfair to the seller lol. To help with how unfair it was the people buying our house went above list price to cover it so we didn't get hit as hard, that's the reason we got bombed on appraisal.

Be sure to still get a title company, it provides insurance on your transaction, even though it's a land contract. I've heard horror stories about how people have gotten screwed over in land contract's that didn't have a title company involved.

They are a great "cover your ass" type of thing!

Kinja'd!!! zeontestpilot > MontegoMan562 is a Capri RS Owner
07/15/2014 at 12:38

Kinja'd!!!0

Well that bites for you then.

Not sure about the title company though. The current residents are friends of ours, its actually the youth pastor of our old church. He's in a land by contract deal setup right now, but he is feeling led to go to another church (his current church contract was up). So he doesn't want the current owner of the title to get gypped if they have to leave the contract early. From what I hear, the house owner is a great guy. Even told them one Christmas that since money was tough, they didn't have to pay anything for a few months.

The house I'm renting and his house are on the same subdivision/campgrounds. So, it's like everyone knows everyone. I'll look into a title company though...

just a thought, it sounds like you have a great relationship with everyone involved so I don't know if I would worry about it then.

The stories I had heard were about people doing land contract deals with people they had never met, and it turned out they were a renter in the house and never actually owned it to be able to GIVE a land contract.

Could be a good deal for you man I hope it works out.

I just talked to our banker, our deal might not be dead yet after all so hopefully it all works for both of us.

Maybe I'll see you at F^3!

Kinja'd!!!0

I haven't met the title-owner, the residents have only seen him like twice in 10 years! But the residents are trust-worthy, and it would be a sweet deal. The house is actually the next street over from mine, so its also convenient, :). And my wife just said yes to the house, so now I got to talk to the owner sometime, see what can happen.

I'm hoping it works out for you though. It seems selling a house is a headache...

My wife has a tendency to make everything taste good, well, 99% of it. Out of almost 4 years of marriage, she has made perhaps 3 things I wasn't crazy for? Tops 10 times. Its just all, so, good!

Which reminds me, I need to make some philly cheese-steaks for her...

you need to make some philly cheese steaks for ME.

I'm originally from North Jersey, it's awesome to get a taste of the east coast.

And we pay too much attention to our diet to enjoy our food too much :-/

Hahaha, I am a bit rusty. I worked in a Deli when I lived in FL, the Publix Supermarket. They are well known for there amazing subs. Especially with Boar's Head meats and cheeses. But for the philly it doesn't matter on the meat, since its all cooked up anyways. The veges and cheese choices do matter though.

I'm not a purist, I do what tastes good.

Lol. I spent 1.5 years in the Deli. Because of that, I have developed quite the knowledge of deli meats and cheeses. I sliced the meats and cheese, made subs, and did everything else they wanted me too. Our department was the red-headed step-child of the store, so we just got in trouble a lot for dumb things.

I wish that the local Krogers would have such well staffed deli's.

I seriously confused a guy behind the counter when I asked for "a third of a pound". He cut a full pound at first and was looking at me and was like "is this right?" I said..."no I wanted a third of a pound not a full pound"

"Oh ok" goes back to slicer and cuts another 1/4 of a pound.

"How about now?"

"No I said a third!"

"I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!"

"0.33, .33 OF A POUND"

"OH ok, I'll take some off"

Seriously. This was a dude in his late thirties. He had NO IDEA what I was talking about. I was at the deli counter of a publix in SC for some boars head 2 weeks ago! Good service there. I didn't have any brain busters like 1/3 though.

lol, Boars Head Head Cheese . It tastes like, I kid you not, ham in gelatin. You just have to ignore whats in it. BH at least does high quality meats for their products. Normal head cheese isn't done the same way.

I tried it once, to see what it was like. Plus, when customers asked, I could tell them what it was. Know what you sell, right?

Boars Head cheese on the other hand....all forms on epic....

07/16/2014 at 09:29

Kinja'd!!!0

Hahaha, that sounds horrific.

Epic on the cheese though.... I'll have to see if it fits the budget, there stuff is great, but you get what you pay for.

07/16/2014 at 09:56

Kinja'd!!!1

It looks horrific, and the texture is 'rough' (cuz of the tongue), but it tastes like ham in gelatin. Like a really strong, ham taste.

BH's cheese is made from real milk. Most other [cheaper] brands are made with powdered milk, which is why the price is so low when compared to BH's prices. Somewhere on the packaging, if it says something along the lines of "made from dairy product" (or something very similar), its made from powdered milk.

BH Overgold Roasted Turkey is actually from MI, :). It's actually three turkeys breasts put together glued together with a special protein glue (more natural). I believe other deli meats use a enzyme glue.

And you're right, you get what you pay for. I've seen a lot of Spartan stores carry BH products.

Kinja'd!!!0

Yep, and if I remember correctly....it's 40% lower sodium than the national average. So it's actually healthy for you. The just don't say it's low sodium because people equate that with bad tasting, but it's right there on the packaging. Plus it's BH's biggest seller. Its interesting because there is another turkey that is near identical, the 46% Low Sodium [Oven Roasted] Turkey Breast , which is just skinless, lol.

It's really funny because the Deluxe [Low Sodium Over Roasted] Roast Beef , says its low sodium (compared to the national average) but no where on the packaging does it say by how much. I had to ask a BH's representative, and they had to make a call. It's a measily 3% lower than the national average, lol.

Have you every sampled the No Salt Added Swiss Cheese ? lol. Don't quote me on this, but I believe it's lactose free, it drained out as it aged.

The deli is a fascinating world, :).
