I'm flying down south to buy a '68 Camaro and drive it home. Don't want to be too specific, because the deal isn't done, but have any Opponauts done something like this?
The Camaro has a rebuilt engine & transmission, new tires, runs fine but hasn't been driven a long ways. I'm buying it as my first Project Car.
Any advice other than "You Foolish Fool! Don't do it!" would be appreciated :)

Watch roadkill before leaving to get a taste for driving long distances in old/ unreliable stuff. Bring all of the tools. Most importantly enjoy yourself.

I've done a ton of roadtrips in stupid old cars. I love them. For every trip I bring with me (in advance):
Spare alternator, water pump, belts, ALL FLUIDS at least 5L worth, full socket set, a few crescent wrenches, basic hand tools like hammer, pliers, screwdrivers etc and a working cell phone.
You'll have a ton of fun!

How far south is it? I think if you bring a tool box and you're good with fixing (potential) problems on the spot, it could be done. Worst case scenario, do you have a friend or anybody with a trailer who could pick you up if it something were to go wrong?

Go north.

zip ties. I can't say enough about zip ties. Better than duct tape.

zip ties, duct tape, set of points (if it still has them) a couple spark plugs, some screwdrivers (different sizes and Philips and flathead), socket set in American std sizes, same with wrench's(many places a socket wont reach) needle nose pliers, crescent wrench, little cutter, a knife or blade.
a little jack could be handy because the factory spare jack doesn't really work.
other than that should be good to go!
awesome car and welcome to the 68 Camaro owners group!

In addition to all the tools and stuff everyone else has mentioned I would say a AAA card just in case you need to get it to a shop. You can only do so much on the side of the road.

You foolish fool! TAKE ME WITH YOU! Or at least let me come see the car when it's back? Where are you in Mich? :)

Roughly Arkansas to Detroit. I've got relatives midway, but no truck/trailer. The car's in good running condition, but it's a long trip...

Oh, gorgeous car man! Hopefully mine will look that good in a year. Thanks for the great list of supplies too.

I'm near Detroit. I might take it to the Lingenfelter Cars & Coffee to solicit ideas on how to tackle the resto.

I'm in Southfield so that's not too far. You should come to Pasteiners on Saturday mornings!

Haven't heard of that one. Do you just drive up & park, or is there a registration process?

I'm just now catching up on this event!
Congrats on the new car. Sorry about northern KY traffic. I live in Lexington so I'm familiar.
I bought my 78' Datsun 280Z in Kathleen, GA and drove it home. It was a great experience.

I would add fuel hose and a large filter to that list. The tank is probably rusty.
