The van stalled on my way home. Not at a stop sign, but while I was driving.
I can't tell if the wheel locked, or if the wheel is just that hard to turn while the power steering is off. I'm just glad I was on a straight road.
I'd blame a low tank of gas, but I was barely in the red, and it restarted right back up.
But it wouldn't let me restart it in neutral. I have to stop and shift it into park to restart it.
I dunno, the whole thing was weird, and I'm a little concerned.

The first one to make a recall joke; I will tell you how unoriginal you are for the longest time.

Yeah, You can only start an automatic with it being in park, my mother had her Montana stall like that on her once. turned out to be a bad fuel level sensor in her case.

Really? I've restarted the Vue in neutral before.
I know my gas gauge is off, but I dunno.

both the BMW and the Odyssey in my case don't start in neutral, oddly enough.

The Vue has this weird magical transmission that can be flat towed in neutral without damaging it and do a few other things. That could be why.

I doubt your wheel locked. When my harmonic balancer fell off (yes it literally fell of), my power steering was gone and it felt like it took the force of pushing the car to turn the wheel. Granted, 12.50 tires don't really aid in light steering.

I had an easier time turning my dad's 35in. mud tires than I did that wheel.

I'd assume you keep up with it pretty well, but was the oil very low at the time? I've had a car do that to me when I was running it nearly dry on my way to GET some oil. Not fun.

I have no way of telling. I'm 90% sure my oil gauge isn't attached to anything, the needle just kinda bounces around on the gauge.
I am 8,000 miles past due for an oil change according to the little sticker in the window...

Well WITH power steering it's not that bad, without it's bad. If it felt like it was almost to the point of not being able to turn it, that was the power steering off. The steering shouldn't lock if it's not in park, and if it was locked you wouldn't have been able to turn it unless you somehow broke the lock.

Oh no, I meant when his truck ran out of gas and the PS didn't work.
I dunno, it has a bit of play when it locks, but probably not as much as I was moving it. I wasn't really paying attention to anything except getting it restarted.

Could be worth checking into it, especially if it's past due. If there's not enough lubricant, it makes sense for the engine to just stop like that.

My balancer fell off 5 minutes from my house and I just figured my ps pump had died because it looks awful, so I drove home. I got home and realized I drove with no water pump either. So I understand the not paying attention part.

In many automatic cars you can't start it unless it's in park.

Yay! One step closer to that 525...
