Do not really watch CFL, but a new team in Ottawa. But the Montreal team signed Ocho.

P.S

Go Pats!

Yeah I saw something about Chad Johnson playing in CFL on deadspin. For some reason I have an old bengals jersey with his name on.

Go pats indeed. God I can't wait for the season to start, miss watching my team.

ahhhaha its the weirdest shit ever. 3 downs, longer field, more players, everyone can be in motion, etc. definitely worth taking a peek at. go roughriders!

Yeah I've got the Toronto Calgary game on now. Seems pretty watchable so far, although takes a little adjusting too. They looked like they almost ran a wedge play there which is illegal in NFL, so I assume the rulebooks are really different other than the obvious stuff like 3 downs etc.

It only has 3 downs, so there is more throwing

If you're a big football fan you'll probably enjoy the subtleties between NFL and CFL rules. 3 downs adds some urgency to offence. Bigger field adds more space to cover. Tends to be higher scoring in general, which is counter intuitive to the 3 downs thing.

Yeah I was aware of the basic rule differences, does it tend to translate into higher risk plays and more turnover on downs from going for it on 3rd?

Yeah I'm a huge football fan but only watch NFL and higher division college games mostly so haven't given CFL a thought til now. Watched a few minutes of the Toronto Calgary game and seems pretty watchable so far. Should help fill the void til September rolls around.

CFL is the thing Canadians watch till preseason NHL starts.

Hell, around cars and coffee today the consensus was "Thank god NHL is only 90 days away"

I watch NHL too sometimes, my roommate is a huge Isles fan so games tend to be on in the living room a lot. NFL is the my favourite sport though, I start counting down to NFL preseason not long after the superbowl finishes.

I can stand NFL a lot more, and I'll actually watch a few games a week of that cause with friends its pretty fun.

No one I know really cares about CFL, and we're bloody Canadian. Its not that fun to watch on your own, everyone else is either NFL, NHL or "yea why are we watching CFL, lets go to the outdoor rink and play street hockey..."

I wondered how it's received in Canada, the stadium in this game looks pretty empty which looks strange compared to an NFL game where only the bottom 1/4 teams struggle with attendance. I live in the UK so I'm pretty well removed from the culture around these sports.

I watch. It's too bad they only have the one team in the league though.

The funny thing is that when they are on, they are great. When they are off, they are abysmal. I don't know how they lose, being the only team in the CFL, but it happens.

I like that they are not as polished as the NFL. That's the same reason I prefer the NCAA level for sports, and not the "Bigs". Way more trial and error, desparation moves, etc.

They know they aren't all going home in team jets to penthouses and Lambos. So they aren't as worried about it. You see real effort and desire in their actions.

The CFL is where unsigned NFL players (washed up or out) and a lot of could've been players end up. You see it in their eyes. The imported ones particularly. They would, and do, drop the CFL once their chance comes along or penance is over.

there are a lot of teams that try qb sneaks on 3rd & 1 because the d line has to be a yard back so they're often pretty successful

Yeah man I used to watch all the time. Then I moved to a city without a team...but we finally got one this year. I have heard the play hasn't been all that good this year sadly.
