Finally back, after a day off Oppo. I feel like I missed so much.
It's a second hand Zalman 9000 9700, got it cheap ($20) at some low-level PC store. It's like I'm pissing off a swarm of bees in there.

Wow. I had a Zalman 9700 back in something like '07 I think. I was running a Core 2 Duo E6750 at 3.6Ghz or so. Good times. Back when Crysis was bringing PCs to their knees.

The store had a selection of old, used Zalman fans, the one I bought was in the best shape, the fins weren't damaged. the worker there didn't know how the fan clamped on, so I showed them on an old board. Since AMD's been using pretty much the same socket for years, all I had to do was to reinstall the factory cooler bracket, and it went on without a hitch. I miss the luxury of liquid cooling already.

I love/hate my water cooling rig. I'm moving it over to a case labs case and it just feels like a mountain of work. Going to be swapping out my reservoir and installing backplates on my GPUs this weekend. I hate down time!

Hah! I'm still running one of those on my desktop at home. I remember spending forever deciding between that zalman and some other arctic cooling one, and whether I was gonna get the ATI 4870 or the nVidia 280

Yup it was the zalman 9700 and slightly smaller 9500. Both were pretty pricey since they were 100% copper. There was the arctic cooling freezer pro that was one of the cheaper ones and decent, but nothing special. I had a 4850 512MB and upgraded to a 4870 1GB then a 4890 1GB when it came out. Got zalman gpu coolers for those since those cards were hot and loud.
Can't believe how long ago this was.

Hah that's the arctic cooling one I went with now that I think about it, the price point is what sold me on it. Thing's still going strong.
One of these days, when I manage not to blow all my money on my car one of these months, I'm going to build a PC again. I got a little sad after I spent $600 on a new v3 AccessPort and realized I could have bought a PC that blew my old $2k budget one out of the water.
