I'm planning on taking a trip down to Myrtle Beach sometime around the end of July/beginning of August. I've never been, so recommend me some things to do/places to go while I'm there!

Sumter/Columbia oppo chiming in, besides the beach, not really. I find it really touristy with mini-golf courses and overpriced beach shops everywhere. The beach itself is pretty nice, water's murky due to the sand but still enjoyable, and there're miles of beach to comfortably walk on.
There is a classic Mopar collection nearby but entry fee is sorta pricey. On the flip side, he owns a Superbird, Joe Dirt's Daytona Charger, and more Hemis than a SRT dealership.

In my experience, the south end is much less crowded.

Don't go to Myrtle Beach, but if you do bring an etch-a-sketch so you'll have something to do while sitting in traffic.

if I ever have the urge to go drink on the beach, I have the much closer Ocean City, MD near me.

Well there's the beach itself. There's also Broadway at the Beach/Barefoot Landing, if you want to just walk around and see boring tourist stuff. There's this place , which I went to and would definitely say is worth taking a peak at.
Myrtle Beach is highly based around tourists. Most people spend a few hours on the beach, go out for dinner, hit either the outlets or mini golf (there's a ton of both) go back to their hotels, and repeat the next day. We've been going for something like 5 years now (although we aren't this year) and usually go down for a month at a time, and spend almost every hour of every day on the beach. It's that nice. Also, assuming you're on the younger side, pick up a cheap skimboard and board wax, for low-tide nights. Nothing is better than just gliding down an empty beach while the sun sets. You just have to figure it out first, which typically means some bloody knees and a few major "ouch" moments.

Depends on what you want to do...
Personally, I avoid Myrtle Beach proper...its not my cup o tea. I prefer Pawley's Island for beaching it, bit of a drive but my dogs can run almost totally free (bring leash JIC as Police drive around) and get there early or mid/late afternoon due to limited parking.
Broadway gets a bunch of college kids, especially at night.
Like to golf? Anywhere you look there is a course.
I've heard the aquarium is cool, but small (haven't been). Ripley's places are all over here, but I've never done them.
House of Blues in North Myrtle beach usually has some decent music, but drinks are where they get you. There is live music all over the place, so google around. Boathouse is another club type dealy that can be good.
Friday afternoons 501 into Myrtle is a parking lot, be fore warned. Opposite on Sundays.
Everyone walks around smoking E-cigs or Vap's. Just a warning.

My back up plan if we decide to not go to Myrtle: go to the Hampton's. Never been up there but I hear it's nice.

Charleston is incredible. Its about 2 hours from myrtle, and two hours from savannah and hilton head. Plus tons of nice beaches without all the crap tourists of Myrtle.

thanks for the tip. I'd love to stop by BMW's plant at Spartanburg while I'm down there too, is that nearby?
